Event Description

Saturday June 10th IMU & CiTR 101.9FM present The Skatomatics CD release party w/ The Panic, Whitey + Blind God @ The LAMPLIGHTER 210 Abbott Street . Doors 8pm / $10 -:- Info: 604 681 6666

The SKATOMATICS - Put on your dancing shoes, 'cause the Skatomatics will get you up on your feet with their irresistible blend of 4x4 time and a brass section. Anyone fortunate enough to have been at one of their energetic live shows knows they're in for a good time! The Skatomatics came together in a Vancouver storage locker back in 2002 when a couple of locals bonded over their love for bands like The Police, Sublime, King Apparatus and The Clash. Featuring former members of Edmonton's Mad Bomber Society and Halifax ska pioneers Dr. Skankworthy, they released their first independent EP in 2004, "Skatomatics for the People". It climbed the college radio charts, hitting #2 on CiTR. 2006 sees the release of their first full-length CD, "High Maintenance". "Vancouver is experiencing one of it's Ska revival frenzies. The Skatomatics are in the vanguard of this movement, and anyone fortunate enough to have witnessed one of their energetic, not to mention sweaty, live shows can attest that these guys are the real deal." - Red Cat Records http://www.skatomatics.com

The PANIC bring thumping tunes, sanded chaos, a dancefloor and somewhere to be lost. Damn fine dirty ska-rock with evil funk inflections and a dose of unabashed twang. The Panic isn't about shoe-gazing or chronic heartache, glitz or splashy effects. The lyrics spring neither from a well of bottomless rage nor from an unquenchable need to shed vain tears. Bring dancing shoes and a will to move, fuel those moments with great songs and the right attitude. http://www.famousape.com

WHITEY - In three years Whitey has played countless shows, toured around the West Coast, released two albums, and show no sign of slowing down. Their music - an energetic mix of ska, punk, and straight up rock - has earned them a spot as one of the most respected, exciting, and hard working bands around. They're busy planning the release of their sophomore full length album, "Watch Your Mouth", while booking and planning CD release shows, balancing band practices, school and work on top of it all. They've performed with such bands as The Tea Party, DOA, Holly McNarland, Stabilo and many more. http://www.whiteymusic.com

BLIND GOD is a bluesy, duo whose sound has been compared to a wide range of artists from Ben Harper to Massive Attack. They've played together for over 6 years, filling rooms and captivating audiences with their dark sound and beautiful, honest lyrics. Drummer Ray Garraway, who tours and records with multi Juno award winning hip-hop artist K-OS, has been called a genius, and gets the crowd going with his unmatched beats! Dave Olajide's sweet guitar riffs and clever lyrics command attention and make you feel as though you are starring in a Quentin Tarantino movie! http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=34544322
