Instruments: Vocals details
I've taken professional voice lessons and performed publicly for several years. Lately I've found myself out of practice and would simply like to get back to singing and playing with other people on a regular basis.
I started off taking classical lessons, and moved on to jazz a few years ago. The first time I really, really heard music was listening to Janis Joplin sing 'Mercedes Benz,' and the world changed.
People have compared my voice to Linda Ronstadt's and Judy Collins's. My favourite female artists at the moment are probably Neko Case, Madeleine Peyroux, and Lhasa. Sam Cooke and Neil Young never stray far from the top of my list. Because it's always changing, I won't give a firm list of influences. However, some artists I'm really enjoying right now include Dinosaur Jr., Beach House, Band of Horses, Big Star, the Magnetic Fields, Beirut, Fever Ray, Kings of Convenience, Edwin Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, and TV on the Radio.
