I just heard this song by green day working class hero...

ill be the first to say that they are fucked now with the makeup and the lame songs about george w bush. For the band that got me into playing guitar in grade 7, it is what it is..pop punk.

but this song kikcs ass i dont care what people say go listen to it its fuckin rad. i think it might bea cover? That oculd explain things - Mon, 21 May 2007 12:55am Edited: Mon, 21 May 2007 12:57am

At least it's a good cover. Nothing fancy. Just a classic song brought to a younger generation who may not of been too keen on Lennon's music. Plus, it's a charity single. Hard to remember a charity single that didn't suck. I'm looking at you Nickelback! - Mon, 21 May 2007 2:10am

Back in 1970 when lennon wrote the tune it was banned from radio play because it used the word Fuck and the entire tone of the song was not the kind of thing radiostations and record label wanted to send out to the masses, which is too bad because more people should have been exposed to it then cause it had all the potential to be a number one hit back then but instead it'll be a number 1 hit for greenday, i'm sure of it. they dont totally desicrate it but to me i jsut dont find they do it justice. The only plus side is that everytime I hear it played on the radio they give credit to John Lennon for writing the song so at least his music is still getting out there...even if it is from the guys who made "dookie" - Tue, 22 May 2007 11:04pm

dookie was pretty good for it's time...sure it's poppy...and not all anti-government...but it was good times for me got me playin guitar (along with gob's how far shallow takes you). I know there must have been a few people from this board at that gob show in that room with the reddish couches everywhere and a low cieling..probabaly around 1998? - Wed, 23 May 2007 4:29pm

I think the real question is who was better Paul or John?
I say John, cause he was badass. Hell, I'd pick George over Paul. - Thu, 24 May 2007 1:17pm Edited: Thu, 24 May 2007 1:18pm

Paul made too many sappy silly songs but still better than Ringo who was either doing country or singing childrens songs. George Harrison was the man. Too underrated. - Thu, 24 May 2007 4:20pm

i personaly like lenon a bit more too but the beatles would definately not be the beatles without paul would never have even came close.. The two of them competed a lot and would use each other's ideas to come up with better ones.

You can't just ignore songs like I Saw Her Standing There, Drive My Car, Paperback Writer, With A Little Help From My friends, Fixing A Hole, When I'm Sixty Four, Hey Jude, Back In The U.S.S.R,Helter Skelter, and above all, Let It Be.

I love how everyone always puts down love songs....its so manly. I think im gunna go work out with the guys n then sit in front of 7/11 listening to ac/dc talking about how all girls are sluts. lol. - Thu, 24 May 2007 5:04pm Edited: Thu, 24 May 2007 5:07pm

If you wanna hear a good cover of this song, check out the version mark lanegan does of it. It's on a Lennon tribute cd that came out in the mid 90's sometime. It's absolutely incredible, much better than the greenday version.

You know, Mark from Queens of the Stone Age and the Screaming Trees? And his solo stuff.

Of course you knew that, just checking - Thu, 24 May 2007 6:40pm

I'm not against love songs. I LOVE, errrr, love songs and the above list mentioned is a great list although I'm not a big fan of When I'm 64. Those are the Paul songs I disagree with because they sound kinda corny and kitsch [excluding Maxwell's Silver Hammer because silly songs about pounding people in the head with a hammer are awesome].

And Mark Lanegan rules. - Sat, 26 May 2007 2:27pm

All of you should check out Marianne Faithfull's cover of this song from the mid early-mid 80's I think. It is the shit. She was an ex of Keith & Mick's, a hottie in her day, but think she had a pretty rough time, this cover, and the whole album sum up her feelings of that time. Check it out! The album is 'Broken English'. - Wed, 1 Aug 2007 12:02am

I made a promise to myself that I would never listen to Christina Aguleira's version of "Mother". There's no way on earth I could ever bring myself to do that without desperately wanting to end my life.

I heard a bit of Green Day's cover.. I don't like it.. most likely because I'm a huge Lennon fan... I did listen to the Flaming Lips version of "(Just like) Starting over" though.. because they're cool... - Thu, 23 Aug 2007 12:56am

it's cool to be a lennon fan though..it's really not cool to be a green day fan.

i like the production/drums/solo. billy jean's (lol) voice is just the same generic one he always uses but o well. Vocal Talent is optional if you are a good songwriter, just ask the other billy (corgan). - Fri, 24 Aug 2007 4:12pm Edited: Fri, 24 Aug 2007 4:13pm

It's not so much about the precision of voice but the emotion and what is being said. I don't like Bob Dylan or Clap Your Hands Say Yeah [throwing them out there as another example] because of their singing talents. I like them because of their sincerity and ideas. - Thu, 30 Aug 2007 12:30pm
