so just when were the glory days of music? what era or what generation would you have liked to grow up in just to experience the music?...

i'd like to go back to the 70's and experience what i think was the era for unrivaled rock music. I also think that bands and artists like wolfmother or lenny kravitz or black summer crush (which is a relatively new band but they are sure starting to make a name for themselves....www.myspace.com/theblacksummercrush…that’s their website…check it out if you’re a fan of rock music) are paving the way for retro rock to make a come back. because we rock fans all know that somewhere in our ipod we have led zep albums stored for when we get sick of some of this new junk out here today. i think that these bands bring a fresh new look on something that sounds familiar without risking their own originality.... any thoughts? - Thu, 1 Mar 2007 2:57pm

Rock music was so good back then because it was so new and fresh, the "retro revival" bands of today are completely missing the point. To pay tribute to something original and creative, try being original and creative yourself. Music's just as good as it ever was, although compared to decades before it's being largely left out of the mainstream. Today if you have to actually look hard for something neat and exciting, but the rewards are all the sweeter. Classic rock is good in it's own regard, but should be left how it was: preserved and treasured, not rehashed and watered down by these glorified cover bands today. That's my opinion, or a little of it. - Thu, 1 Mar 2007 9:10pm

I can't help but feel that the first post was more just a plug for The Black Summer Crush.

Hmmm, can't think of many times, but lots of places AT certain times. - Thu, 1 Mar 2007 10:51pm

I'd go for the 60's. I'd become a big hippy, smoke pot and hang outdoors with friends. So many good tunes. - Fri, 2 Mar 2007 4:39pm

The beatles erupted around '64, that's a little late. - Fri, 2 Mar 2007 10:19pm

Lenny Kravitz??? hehehe... not really a new band bringing back the revival.

I'd go back to the late 50s or early 60s.

oh, the Beatles were 60s, not 50s to the above poster.

hmmm... there are a lot of times that would have something to experience. - Sat, 3 Mar 2007 10:53am Edited: Sat, 3 Mar 2007 10:54am

I would have liked to see Neil Young and Crazy Horse back in the day. I saw them reunite for the Greendale show at the Queen Elizabeth in Vancouver, but that is a huge venue.
Yeah, Jimi live would be amazing.
It was pretty cool on the west coast here in the late eighties/ early nineties. Bands like Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, Nirvanna and the Red Hot Chili Peppers at local clubs, not to mention Green Day in Beacon Hill Park, Grunt Truck, MudHoney, Screaming Trees,L7, Babes In Toyland, The Smalls, etc., as well as all the local talent like the Dayglos, Shovlhead, Shutdown, Breach, Micky Christ, Red Tide, Nomeansno etc. - Sat, 3 Mar 2007 4:26pm Edited: Sat, 3 Mar 2007 4:36pm

Beatles stopped playing live over the "Beatles are bigger than Jesus" comment made by John Lennon and the huge backlash that came after that. People were burning Beatles records. Hell, the KKK would go to the venues and protest outside threatening to use violence. Of course, 12 year old girls screaming is in their too. I just wanted to add. - Mon, 5 Mar 2007 1:49am

The Beatles were too big to ban. Although the 'bigger than christianity' remark did create a backlash/ban, it wasn't big enough to do any real harm to their collective popularity over any real significant amount of time. - Mon, 5 Mar 2007 7:49am
