I remember a few months ago that the Zone pulled all the Raconteurs (and White Stripes) because they got in shit for pre-playing that awful Raconteurs song. So I just took the rate the music survey and guess who's in it, the Raconteurs. Strange, I thought they were never playing this band anymore, I guess the people who really control what gets played at The Zone had to play it due to payola. This is so sad, c'mon Zone, I know your reading this, can't you stay with your original protest, or does money really control your business?!? *chuckle* - Mon, 4 Dec 2006 6:15pm Edited: Mon, 4 Dec 2006 6:17pm

Yeah, I remember that 'cease and desist' BS that was handed to The Zone. I also remember being impressed that a radio station would stand up for themselves by boycotting playing the artists in the order.

But then the respect I had gained for them out of this incident was lost.

They started playing the White Stripes and the Raconteurs again quite a while ago.

I believe it was around the same time that I stopped listening to the Zone. But that's also partly because I finally got a new CD player and rediscovered my older music collection ;) - Tue, 5 Dec 2006 12:45pm Edited: Tue, 5 Dec 2006 12:47pm

BTW: Money is why the Zone is in business, and money is what makes organizations like The Zone survive, but it seems a dirty way to make money, dont you think? I dunno, I stopped listening to radio at home over 8 years ago cause I found something called MP3. The only time I listen to radio (well listened) was when I used to work in a kitchen, it gives you some gauge at what time it currently is if you don't see the clock and your focusing on getting the job dun. - Tue, 5 Dec 2006 8:20pm

payola? Griphin, that hurts mang.

I drive a scooter.

We PAY money to play music. We started playing the Raconteurs because the song was good and people request them. persoinally, it is one of my favourite records. The boycott lasted sometime, the cease and desist order was not an "order" it was a strongly worded lettre from a NYC law firm and was/is real. We could have kept playing the song and no court could do anything about it... just thought it was dickheadish and if they don't want to be on the radio, we get sent piles of records from bands that do.

The Zone gets paid from the commercials played on the radio... hense commmerical radio. The songs are selected to garner the largest share of audience. - Thu, 7 Dec 2006 2:47pm

But I don't get it Jeremy, I mean you were on Ch news about this. Do your bosses ferget about news your station made? Still, you guys should stick with these things. I personally would think it would be really funny if The Zone wouldn't play any of their music, and Jack White came to the station and had to apologize for his label doing that (think of the free PR your station could get?!?). But if there label can do that, then who's to say these labels won't do this again. I dunno Jeremy, it's the principle of the whole matter. You could of kept playing the song, but who's to say they might pull the same thing again?!? OK, serious mode off. - Fri, 8 Dec 2006 1:34am Edited: Fri, 8 Dec 2006 12:20pm

Ideally, it would have been nice to get Jack White to say sorry...

We did get our publicity from the shenanigans but the reallity is, people don't care that Jack White's lawyer sent a mean lettre months and months ago... all they know is that The Zone is NOT playing "Seven Nation Army" and the End or CFOX is and... boom they are off to another radio station or their CD/MP3 player. - Fri, 8 Dec 2006 1:11pm

Yeah, I know, but you have to do something to get people to listen to FM radio these days, I, like a lot of the old phucks on here, grew up listening to FM (even AM/FM to some people on here). So if you can figure out what happened, thumbs up!!! - Fri, 8 Dec 2006 6:51pm

I try to listen to the radio. It is one source of many influences that can expand my musical horizons. I grew up on KISW.
I listen less now a days cause of the barrage of commercials. I understand the need, somebody has to pay for Jeremy's scooter, but it is just too much. My dad used to be a sales guy at an FM station in Kelowna when I was a kid and FM was new. I have a lot of respect for Al Mumford. I remember when we were young he made us listen to the whole Janes Addiction album, not just the hit. He interviewed Nirvanna after the Forge show that nobody went too. It was great to see that guy get the program directors job. Too bad he left for Alberta, good for him though.
I might listen more if they let Jeremy drink on air. - Sat, 9 Dec 2006 1:57am

"I might listen more if they let Jeremy drink on air."

Now that would be trouble.

Al was a good boss. His station in Alberta that he is running now is as good as it gets for commerical radio (especially in Alberta!) http://www.radiosonic.fm . - Mon, 11 Dec 2006 12:22pm
