I firmly believe most of the fun on this joint comes from metalheads and everyone else all giving each other shit, and to seperate the forums is to destory what makes LiveVic beautiful. I hold no grudge against the mods who made the change -- it was a worthy experiment, but it's failed.

Post your support (or opposition) for reunifying Music Chit-Chat here. Let the people speak. - Wed, 23 Aug 2006 1:18pm

all the good posts, (funny ones) where people bad mouth eachother and get really mad, their deleting them all and warning people. Let people have their fun. Just make a place where people can make fun of each other...that would be good. - Thu, 24 Aug 2006 6:58pm

"electronic" should be in the heavy section or add "noise" to the list of genres.

But re-unification makes more sense.

Obviously "heavy" electronic music such as noise, industrial, etc would fall into the heavy catagory and something like nu-jazz or ambiant would fall into the "light" catagory... we didn't list every possible genre that could be included for space reasons.

.....

Hey I ment to post on this sooner! Yeah we appricate your call on this? We were noticing some threads getting burried quickly and though that opening it up like this would give more space for postings.

We debated for a long while about how we should seperate it, IF we should seperate it, etc etc.

We definatly apprciate hearing what people like and dislike about the site, and if people have ideas about features they'd like to see, or small changes we could make to make the site better by all means post em, or email us with them. That said, we don't always have time to get to everything right away being that its kind of a hobby site but we appricate the imput!

For the people that don't like the new 2 forums, is it the way we split it that bothers you or just the fact that its split at all - Mon, 28 Aug 2006 1:53pm Edited: Mon, 28 Aug 2006 1:56pm

Well, in principle the split doesn't bother me.

What bothers me is that the place fell dead as soon as it was split. LiveVic was built on inter-scene slagging, and I think to some extent it's what makes this site great. It acts as a place for people from totally different bands and scenes and genre to get together in the same place and insult each other. Otherwise, theere'd be no contact at all. LiveVic makes the scene tighter, as far as I'm concerned. But that's lost if we split the forum.

Of course, there hasn't been an overwhelming response to my call for reunification. A positive one, sure, but not overwhelming. It's your forum, your call. - Tue, 29 Aug 2006 2:20am

yeah, for sure.

maybe, if the problem is that threads are getting buried too quickly, then you could solve that by having the pages scroll down further with more threads on the first page? - Tue, 29 Aug 2006 6:46am

Knifeghost, internet traffic is traditionally down in summer months, and thats the case on our sites as well. So there may have been less posts here lately, but I sincerely doubt that its due to the split. It may be fair to give it a bit of time to see how it plays out as traffic rises in the fall months.

The split wasn't my idea, but I think its a good experiment! It seems like we're all with you in your concerns about the loss of unity, but we're just hoping this will encourage new people to feel comfortable enough to post. I doubt that the people already here will stop sticking their noses into the new sections, so it should work out.

And we did increase the number of threads viewable on a page a short while ago. Did you want it increased even more? I'm concerned about page-loading problems for those with slow connections.
(And thanks for starting this thread! You guys know the board best) - Tue, 29 Aug 2006 11:49am Edited: Tue, 29 Aug 2006 11:51am

Heh I know what you mean about the inter-scene slagging, now you can stage guerilla attacks on the metal head boards! Sneak in undetected, hiding behind that huge dude in corpse paint with the hair, shout "THE BLACK ALBUM WAS TECHNICALLY A MUSICALLY BETTER ALBUM THEN MASTER OF PUPPETS ... and Frank Black could kick Kerry King's ass!!!"
and then run out ... it'll be great =) - Wed, 30 Aug 2006 10:00am

You speak madness! I mean, ok, maybe to SOME extent. I mean, I defiantely get a kick out of watching & even occasionally participating in a good ol' slag fest, but the fact of the matter is that for every musican I know who uses this site, I know of 5 who won't come near it because they can't stand the juvenille piss-wars. - Tue, 5 Sep 2006 12:18pm

if the problem is the "death" of livevictoria due
to not enough slagging maybe the answer is.. more
people in the community. i think this site used
to be more fun and more diverse when it wasn't
always the exact same people talking about the
same bands or just reviewing a few select shows.
my vote goes for advertising livevictoria.com again
and making the site stronger as an online community.

Well now that the summer is over, and i'm starting to climb out from under my "working too many festivals" bomb shelter. I'll see if we can't stir something up a bit.

ALSO ... you guys can help! We're a community site so if you can help the community know about it please do.

Attach our logo, or somehow put http://www.livevictoria.com on your show posters etc. Also if you know or work at any businesses that would be into haveing a livevictoria.com promo poster up on their premis .. fire me an email!

Also if you have any ideas for how we can promo the site, we're totally all ears! Just keep in mind, we're poor as the little bit of ad money that comes in doesn't do much more then cover the montly costs of the site at this point.

We really do appricate your imput though truthfully! - Thu, 14 Sep 2006 9:57am

That goes ditto for LiveMusicVancouver! We've got a bunch of posters that are going into stores & bars now, so let me know if you know of a business/space who'd have room for a couple. They're 5 1/2x17 (short & long)
We've got new logos designed too. - Thu, 14 Sep 2006 10:46am

The shit-storms have died down. Make it a full on campaign remaking your image.

"This is not the LiveVic you abandoned for all the slagging. New look, new management, blah blah."

And if you're _really_ concerned that the flamewars are keeping people away, a more hands-on moderation policy can change that. I'm in favour of free-for-all moderation, but if you think it's hurting business, it's your right (and indeed your responsibility) to take control of it. - Fri, 15 Sep 2006 12:27pm

Again, remember that this is the internet folks. I'm not aware of a single forum that doesn't involve a certain amount of flaming, etc.

The media loves the salaciousness of it all. If you listen to them, the internet is nothing but a bunch of DVD copying pedophiles who are out to steal your credit card.

While I find it fun to debate and bitch myself, I've also hooked up with people and certainly bought and sold gear here. If people have trouble getting past the occasional 'shitstorm' I would indeed suggest a nice cabin far away from civilization. - Tue, 19 Sep 2006 1:30pm

General, what the hell?

I don't think Music Chitchat is going to be re-unified, but I've noticed now there's a lack of interesting posts to read and respond to... I don't like the split. I like both heavy and "general" categories of music and I'd prefer to talk about the two of them all in one place. - Wed, 20 Sep 2006 6:50pm
