classic analogue sound, great sweeps & pads. The programmer (which is worth as much as the synth!) makes it 10x the synthesizer. great shape, etc. funky sequencer that can be stepped externally.

a little steep $$$ my friend...though, please, no offence intended..that's even more than Martin at Tempo Trend wants for his..it's just not enough synth for that kinda dough..MIDI "disabled" keyboards like 3p's are worth $200..or whatever the market will bear...just IMHO. - Wed, 13 Jul 2005 6:11pm

Whatever Vegas J. He's selling the synth with the programmer which totally changes things. It gives you all of the tactile stuff that makes things fun to program plus a keyboard to trigger with. Arguably better than a Juno 106 which I have seen going for similar amounts.

Go into L&M and see how much hardware synth you get for $450.

I'm not saying its the most amazing deal on the planet but it certainly isn't totally nuts or anything. prepal.com shows that the pieces apart are averaging $160US for the programmer and $182US for the synth or so each and that's just the latest average.

If you are going to be a price cop at least know what the fsck you are talking about.

Cheers

Price cop? Holy Shit! Hardly!
I was just giving my opinion and yeah I know all about synths with knobs etc.

You might want to look at your last post trying to sell your K5000s and see what I had to add to help you sell your stuff...you suggesting me a JX3p is worth almost as much as your machine? I dunno.

Oddly enough I suggested to mactac he might be interested in buying your synth...anyways..you telling me I don't know what I'm talking about is a little un-necessary thanks...oh, and by the way, you can get a 'hardware' MicroKorg at L&M for about $500 which, let's face it..is a pretty heavy duty kick ass machine.

But you're right, I won't comment on anyone's asking price anymore. It's probably not cool. - Wed, 13 Jul 2005 6:45pm

the jx3p is a very underrated synth esp if you have the programmer. it sounds great & the sequencer on it is awesome if you have other analogue gear to trigger it with. As a synth, it' s well worth $450.

If you can find a jx3p WITH a programmer for $200, you'd better buy it my friend - i'v enever seen a deal like that.

oh, and by the way the jx3p HAS midi. it's not usually used with midi tho... it's an analogue synth & integrates wvery well into an existing analogue setup ....

this unit is in great shape & I've had it for years.

The only reason I'm selling it is because my studio is literally full of gear & I don't have space for it. - Wed, 13 Jul 2005 6:49pm

Hey Vegas. If it's any consolation I pretty much just talked someone out of buying my K5000s so some negative karma back to me there. I suck as a salesman as I am always, "I don't know if it is right for you".

I should not have been as aggressive about yout post, I just thought that $200 was way too low and I am prone to rants.

As an aside, personally I think that the Alesis ION is a way better option than the MicroKorg if you are looking for a small VA. Much more powerful synthesis engine for the buck and full size keys too.

Cheers

and also check out the DSI evolver if a monosynth is ok fo ya... it's amazing. pain in the ass to program (hey get the polyevolver keyboard version, but it's like $3000US almost) , but he sounds... OOOH THE SOUNDS! analogue AND digital oscillators. - Wed, 13 Jul 2005 7:29pm

and the micron is also damn good if you don't need all the knobs... basically the same as the ion in a different package.... you can get those for a steal. - Wed, 13 Jul 2005 7:31pm

True true...but let's face it..we all kinda like the 3p. I should have edited my post to say WITHOUT the programmer it's worth $200, but I'm prone to not proof-reading my posts. Good thing Moron's around to keep me in line.

Did you say you're getting an Andromeda? Whoa, my friend has one of those...wow..it's like my old Oberheims & Jup's! Now that's a synth, boy! Wayyy cool! Say, did things work out with Kristen? - Wed, 13 Jul 2005 7:34pm

PS check out the guy selling the weedwhacker...funniest thing..someone asked "how it's tone is" and the guy replies...

"the tone is subtle, like a cow mooing underwater"

Moron, You may not be a good salesman right now, but throw that little gem into your next sales pitch and you'll be able to get $850,000 for a Kawai K1. Hilarious! - Wed, 13 Jul 2005 7:43pm

yam the andromeda is cool. it was a tossup between that & the DSI polyevolver keyboard.

I find that it's sound is sort of different a bit. I tdoesn' tseem to have the 'animation' of a jp8, and i considered dumping my Prophet 5 when i got the andro, but i think i'm going to keep it because the andro doesn't really seem to have that 'magic' that the P5 has.

Actually, can you shoot me kristen's #? i can't find it & she hasn't called me... went to go see her play a week or so ago tho, was pretty cool.

hey if you're into analogues, you really should join analogue heaven... it's probably got 2000 members by now & some great discussions.... it's great for an analogue fetishist like me ;) - Wed, 13 Jul 2005 7:45pm

Cool! I saw/ played the Polyevolver at NAMM in January and yeah it's awesome...and don't you EVER sell your P5 BTW, but the Andromeda is just so..well..monstrous that I think you made the right choice. Beautiful machine!

Kristen can be reached at London Drugs Quadra or at 893 0496. I hope you guys can come up with some interesting material...she has good vocal talent, but needs direction and experience with regards to the rest of the business....I didn't realize that b4 lining you two up, I thought she was more experienced than she was. Still we all started at the beginning so she'll learn quickly!

I'll check out analogue heaven...I have heard of it before..thanks! - Wed, 13 Jul 2005 7:50pm

Ya, don't sell the Prophet yet man; You'll regret it almost immediately. If you need some serious room, Crate the SOB up and stash it somewhere safe. That sucka will do nothing but appreciate in value and coolness at the same time. - Fri, 15 Jul 2005 11:23pm

well, I'm pretty sure i have a pretty good handle on whether or not i would regret it ;)

I don't really get personally attached to my gear... if i did, i'd regret selling a LOT of stuff, like my arp2600, 5 or 6 tb303's, 4 TR909's, my korg polysix, the arp axxe, etc etc etc.

If i"m not using it, i might as well get rid of it & get something that I will use. I can always find another P5. Keeping it just because it's going up in value makes no sense to me on a personal basis, because I keep instruments to play, not to look at.

I've gone through enough gear that they are not my "babies" anymore... they are tools... & if I can use it to make something productive that pleases me, or use it for something that is a paying gig, then there is more chance i will hang onto it.

of course there is a special place in my heart for some things, but if a synth is worth $2000.00US ++, and I'm not using it much anymore, well it's gotta go.

the andromeda can nail most of what the prophet can do, and about 100x more. SCI Prophets are always breaking down & there are chips in it that are next to impossible to get. I'm always paranoid about it not working - in fact one of the oscillators is out of tune right now & it's going to take me 10h probably to recalibrate the damn thing. that's 10 hours i could be making music.

I've probably put $2000 into that thing, not including the purchase price.

the other thing, is that you can coax some amazingly magical sounds out of a P5, 80% of what it does sounds very dated.

THis all being said, I'll probably hang onto the p5 until i get the andromeda...just to make sure that there is enough overlap. - Mon, 18 Jul 2005 5:54am

I've seen mactac's studio and it is damn impressive. More gear than I'd know what to do with. :)

The funny thing about the JX3P is the PG200 programmers are worth as much or more than the actual JX3P synths. - Mon, 18 Jul 2005 8:06pm
