The band "Gypsy Heart" initially began in the fall of 1992 when co-founders Theo Massop and Dennis Olsen, who had known each other for many years, decide to team up and form a band. Each of the co-founders came from very different musical backgrounds. Dennis being an internationally trained classical guitarist, Theo having come up the ranks of bar bands performing mostly blues and southern rock. Each had previously done a successful album in their respective fields, Dennis with fellow guitarist James Oldenburg, and Theo in the adult contemporary genre, with three charting singles and international air play. In the convergence of their partnership, Dennis and Theo found themselves becoming the right and left hand of the same entity, "Gypsy Heart".
During the next six years Gypsy Heart built a large following of fans and friends through out the over 560 show which they performed. Dance Halls, Taverns, night clubs, and festivals are the arena's where Gypsy Heart has plied their trade and found favor with music lovers and dancers all over Vancouver Island and the Lower mainland. The attraction for many has been the band's ability to play a wide and diverse repertoire, and to present that repertoire in a manner that speaks of "give the people what they want to hear". During a Gypsy Heart performance you will hear current top 40 rock , classic rock, blues, pop, country rock, and as the slogan says, bottom 20, typical, unusual, and all things in-between.
In July of the year 1999, after a seven-month hiatus due to business and personal constraints, Gypsy Heart resurfaced after repeated requests for public performances. With the restructuring of Gypsy Heart the band has come to include drummer Peter Scheibel and Bassist Ron McKee. Both of these players are excellent musicians and prolific songwriters with a long history of successful island and touring bands. Their addition to the Gypsy Heart line up has been incredibly inspiring for the original members.
Regardless of audience size, Gypsy Heart can be expected to satisfy any size crowd from ten to ten thousand, with first rate musicianship, on stage antics, and laughter. Basically this band just loves to play and loves to share that with their audiences.
