Event Description

Hummie Mann, a two-time Emmy Award-winning composer/arranger/conductor who has collaborated with some of Hollywood’s most celebrated directors in both theatrical and television films, and Head Instructor for the Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program in Seattle Washington, offers this summer in Victoria, BC a 5-day introductory seminar to film scoring and the business of film.

Topics covered include:

- What exactly IS film music?
- What are the characteristics of a successful and effective film score?
- Who are the “players” on the music team and what they do – the music supervisor, music editor, contractor, orchestrator, copyist, etc.
- The “Policy” and “Vocabulary” of the score
- How is music synchronized to film – click tracks and free timing
- Legal and business aspects of film composition: budgets and contracts; performing rights organizations and royalties
- An introduction to techniques of composition particular to writing film music
