Rad Bands + Rad People = the best first show we could have asked for!

The Winston Campaign opened with kick ass punk rock setting the mood for the night. A good sized crowd had gathered by the time their set rapped-up, just in time for Fortress. Fast, eclectic and intense, this band shows that a post-hardcore exists that has more in common with The Jesus Lizard than Sonic Youth (. . . sweet). Jones Bones was like listening to Raised Fist and Strife at the same time and watching your brains splatter against the wall. Amazing hardcore is all that needs to be said. What were Above This City even doing there? They should be playing at the commodore. These guys are going to be on Distort so fast and they were super cool dudes. We (Burning Ghats)ended up playing last because no one else wanted to--even though it was our first show. I felt a little presumptuous and pretty intimidated, but, after a bit of a shaky start, the energy of the crowd, the mood of the night and the collection of bands made last night unforgettable. Thanks to everyone who made it out and we hope to see you all again soon.

Yeah, and really good turnout! I like that place, and it never fails to amaze me how clean the alleys are outside, i mean right down in chinatown, right by hastings - COME ON! I'm sure with the right breeze you'd easily smell the rotting tripe and carcasses in the ones from couple blocks over.
A nice mix of bands, but funny enough I seemed to like the ones I knew people in the best! I didn't know Carl had joined JB, that was cool, and a really good fit. This sounds wierd, but that set reminded me of The BULEMICS, and I loved that band! Just don't start getting so pathetically messed up you're crying out on the curb/gutter denny, or if you do, don't then decide it'd be a good time to hit on women.... but i digress. Loved that band.
Anyway, bit of a shame i guess about the crowd being so... composed. I was pretty happy though.
And BG, I cannot wait to see you again somewhere where I can hear you. :( I have to confess that it was kind of lost on me - I got into it because in the midst of the rhythms and vocal delivery it was obvious there was something exciting going on there, but I know how I like to be able to hear these drums & guitar and I seriously could not.
I did like how (your old bandmate) said that the real reason he had to leave the band was cuz you guys just got too good... haha, sweet. no really, that was v sweet!

ps i have to go to shindig tomorrow, anyone wanna come with, call - Mon, 5 Oct 2009 11:21pm Edited: Mon, 5 Oct 2009 11:24pm

Thanks for the kind words guys. It was cool to meet you Sati, and I always go to the alleyways around Main and Hastings to hit on women. They're the only ones who truly "get" me.

But I thought BG sounded great! I was right up front though, and you must have had a rougher time hearing if you were further back, behind a lot of bodies and no stage. Definitely looking forward to more shows by all those bands!

Oh, what could I have been on? I was right up front too, but probably on the other side.
I really liked that place, always felt comfortable there, so chill. I remember the first time I went last year when me and maybe 25 crusties were just standing outside all quiet, not even drinking or yelling, not even any weed out, and boom, about 3 cop cars pull up out of nowhere onto the sidewalks all ragtag and dramatic. wut? Soooo funny.
Thursday night, that'll be good, hoping to make it out! - Thu, 8 Oct 2009 10:32am Edited: Thu, 8 Oct 2009 10:35am
