Well, this album is a lot like Character, Melodic Death Metal with some electronic influences, cool melodies and harmonies, ka-chunk breaks, the kinda stuff they've done since Damage Done. I am pretty happy with this album, I am glad that Dark Tranquillity has kept focus and has stayed true to their sound (yes, I know they don't sound like The Gallery anymore, get over it, although it was a great album). Some highlights to me were "The Lesser Faith", "Terminus" would be good if it had more to it, "Inside the Particle Storm" sounds different, "Focus Shift" was really cool. They brought back the girl from Gallery on the last song, I don't like it that much but it could have worked, Mikael can't really sing... Anyways, overall I think Character was a better album, I loved every song on Character, it was a lot like this but more solid, very slightly heavier stuff. In my mind In Flames, At the Gates and Dark Tranquillity pioneered the Gothenburg Melodic Death Metal sound for the most part. At the Gates broke up and were fucking amazing :(, In Flames either sold out or just went all soft and almost American metal-core, Dark Tranquillity still stands, true to their sound. I am interested what others think, I sense massive burns are on the way. Bring on the elitist comments! - Wed, 30 May 2007 10:42am Edited: Wed, 30 May 2007 10:54am
