Akin to the urgency, precision, and agility of a liberating foot solider, Sulaiman’s narratives broadcast from America’s front lines defining a Black, Shi'i, Muslim’s quest for tranquility. His latest opus Dead Man Walking seeks to remedy the general apathy of his generation and awaken hibernating souls. “As a young Muslim Black male in America I feel under attack on many fronts. I can handle being under attack, but it’s heartbreaking – at times— to feel as though I have no comrades. Everyone seems oblivious to our war against the Prison Industrial Complex, police, drugs, poverty and the list goes on. And if they are not oblivious then their concern does not spur them to action. So much of the album is born out of frustration and desperation. I hope to tear back the comforter of apathy and make us own up to ourselves and our responsibility to our people.” An ambitious offering, Dean Man Walking is tailored for those who prefer virtue to vice. It’s a treasure for those who are trying desperately to live, love, and pursue happiness.
