Wow the Lamplighter was rocking last nihgt, totally smoking hot rock n roll show by the vancouver band alliance! I've been following this group of bands for the last four months after first hearing about there community on some reality tv show (The Rock Reality). There were about 9 bands performing (20 mins each?) and they all played pretty killer sets (heh some more killer than others).

Sol 3 started things off with some hard driving riff rock. Killer party music to say the least, I downed a shot of jack and a couple pints during this. Good sound overall cept the vox were hard to hear (no fault of the singer)

Next up was Method which did nothing for me. There sound was cliched thru and thru, with a lame-o vocalist who thinks he can rap. On a positive note they have a killer killer rhythm section so they're not a drowning yet just barely afloat. Get rid of the singer and this band would be charted a course to mediocrity. Decided to blaze right after this one, cause I didn't know what to expect next.

After a quick puff and another boost from uncle jack Autoswitch took to the stage and thru it down. There set was pretty sloppy but intense enough to keep me interested. Maybe sloppy is part of their vibe? Good songwriting overall...they mentioned it was their second set or somethin so i'll go easy on em cause they seem like a great up and coming band. Definitely would buy a cd but none were available.

By now the bars pretty packed, shoulder to shoulder in some parts. The pogs hit the stage. Not the first time i've seen these dudes and i'm definitely not a fan of the band but they did a decent job of turning second rate tunes into a entertaining set. I'm not really being fair cause these guys have come along way and have finally got some power in their sound. Bass players image doesn't really work with the rest but his playing is solid. Back outside for another quick blaze with my mates.

The next band Denderah was crazy trippy i was like damn is that curt cobain? No word of a lie I nearly shit myself when there singer hit the stage. These dudez were feakin intense man...definitely a stand out band that reminds me of the early Meat Puppets meats Nirvana Bleach kinda rock n roll. Glad to see someone still remembers how to rock out with the grunge. They're grunging it but with something new to it. I was talking to someone at the gig, said they had a live record out somewhere and i've definitely gotta get my hands on that one.Found them on myspace today and I've been listening to their tunes all day. Look them up.

Azimuth up next & they weren't too bad. Talented overall but not really my thing..i'd prefer to listen to Seether personally. I like the heavy shit which they delivered but theyve got too much modern generic to there sound. The atmosphere got pretty party style when the autoswitch singer guy jumped up for a cover. It was really well done but I can't remeber the name of the song. I thought the ngith was going downhill after Azimuth but DAMN i was wrong. One more puff and then back inside...

Dreams of Treason, Dreams of Treason what can i say other thank HELL YEAH DREAMS OF TREASon. These dudez thru it down like Guns 'N Roses cept with more rawk. I never heard a guitar sound that angry and beautiful at the same time, definitely sick shit. Killer songs and killer rhythm section that shook the walls man.The singer was like Robert Plant with balls, seriously just downloaded some stuff of theres from myspace with the most killer vox i ever seen. There performance was worth the $10 alone...for f's sakes two of the band members were rockin' out on the bar while the drummer and guitarist did their thing on stage. there was a pretty decent pit kickin durig the set and i was rockin out with some old school classic rock dude that nearly cried after one of the songs (Surrender from myspace)...im higher than hell man and this gotta be the trippiest i've hear.d

The Remedials had it tough following the rockstars btu they delivered a smoking old skool punk rock set. Kinda reminds me of the misfits with a little minor threat and cramps thrown in. They was trashed pretty wicked and had some tech problems...downed another two jacks...and witnessed when of the most excited stage party's i've seen when almost all of the singers from the bands got up and shouted along with one killer tune. Slamming pit got worked over by the guitarist from Dreams of Treason...hes crazy...but managed to give him a couple good shots, shook hands and slammed a beer. Remedials are the best punkers i've seen in years. Check 'em out. I couldn't find em on myspace but if you do drop me line.

Next was some stupid drunkness with different band memebrs up on stage. they mustve been just as trashed as me...no one sounded good. dreams of treaons singer was a total goon by now and so was the other guys from Denderah, Remedials and Azimuth.

Overall the Vancouver Band Alliance brought the party back into rock. Wow sorry that's long hope you enjoy! - Sun, 27 Aug 2006 3:38am
