wasn't able to pay that great attention to the bands, but it was pretty rad (i was flailing my camera/trying to avoid a rusty nail inches away every time I almost fell). photos will be up within a hour or so, i'll post then again. - Tue, 16 Aug 2005 12:15am

I agree, it was incredible. Everyone who was there was there to have a great time. And the small venue made a huge difference... people moving around instead of standing around!!! and the bands brought lots of energy. I was sooo stoked on step it up coming back. and the other bands ruled. god, this show was so much fun.

and thanks to andrew up there for coming and taking pictures. he actually has talent and a decent camera, unlike me! but troy and I took some pictures which will show up on the http://xtylerx.tk site... someday. ha.

and thanks to all the kids who came!!!! what was it, 40-50 kids? it felt like that. 40-50 kids coming to a barn hidden off sooke road is definetely an accomplishment.

everybody stoked for wednesday? - Tue, 16 Aug 2005 12:52am

Okay, 3 hours in photoshop later *sigh* I have all your pic's for you, sorry bands, couldn't really get many great ones of you from... anywhere. haha. but everyone else should be happy with them. If the bands need any done in B&W or something lemme know (I prefer'd them all in B&W, but i had my arm twisted by 2 others that color was better) - Tue, 16 Aug 2005 2:26am

Those were some radtacular pictures Andrew, thanks! I make funny faces at shows.
Anyways, let's keep this fucking real.
The bands were all sweet, WarBOM was obviously out of practice but who cares. I know I don't. They were sweet. I had a love/hate relationship with Fenton's barn, it was awesome how much energy you can pack into a room that small for pileons and whatnot, but it's hard to be able to get to move... But, I had a wicked time, so thanks to all the bands for coming out and being rad dudes. - Tue, 16 Aug 2005 11:18am

I think a small barn where everyone has a rad time is better than a giant gym where everyone kind of stands around. those pictures really are awesome, andrew!

before the show was cool. troy and I, nick, and elyse all showed up and saw people gradually trickle in. the trampoline action was fun, bbq and ice tea were rad, all the kids who showed up were also rad.

as for the bands..

step it up. I was sooo stoked on seeing them. the last time they were here, last summer, was amazing. honestly, back then I was still sort of new to the hardcore scene and this was a band that really sparked more interest in it all for me. I had bought their demo and I've been listening to it for like a year now. they only played a couple old songs but then again it felt like they didn't play long at all. short but oh so sweet.

risky business. I hadn't really checked them out much beforehand but the general impression was that everyone was super excited for them. I could see why, the insane crowd energy carried through them and through hero as well, who were also great.

war by other means played a little sloppy but whatever, impressive for not practicing in 3 months. and they had fun with it. haha every song... "OK GUYS, LET'S KEEP THIS FUCKING REAL!!!!!!!!!!!"

great show, it'd be cool if there was a similar venue closer to downtown, so it would be easier for people. but I live in langford and this was only a 7 minute drive away. - Tue, 16 Aug 2005 12:34pm

Damn that show was so fun. We need more venues with shit to jump off. We should bring couches to all the shows, just to jump off them onto the pile-ons. - Tue, 16 Aug 2005 1:13pm

I love how if one person in the band says they played a bit sloppy or they screw up even once, all of these kids, most of them not even in bands jump on the wagon and continue to 'review' that band as playing sloppy. Its obviously not a big deal, but its kind of annoying. I thought WarBom was one of the most fun of the night, especially Brian's humpty rapping. War By Other Means are always super fun, but I think they showcase their talent in small venues, they seemed to have more energy last night than any time I've seen War By Other Means. Hats off to you. - Wed, 17 Aug 2005 5:20pm

dann? it looks to me like tambo said they seemed out of practice, and I said they seemed a bit sloppy (an opinion I formed while seeing them at the show). there doesn't look like any wagon at all actually. nobody even really reviewed it anyway. don't throw the not being in a band thing at me, you could tell that they were forgetting and fumbling through a few parts accidently, at least that was my personal interpretation. I didn't talk with them or hear how they felt they played. I'm sorry my views annoyed you. the main point of it all was that they were a lot of fun despite it all. WBOM has always been an off-the-wall energetic experience. or am I jumping on another wagon? no. this is my voice, this is what I feel about it, and it's what I tried to say originally. I did not intend any negativity, obviously everyone had a great time.

please don't take this reply personally. you put the effort into doing a big favour for me in the past, and I would gladly return it because I respect you as a good person. I just feel that you misinterpreted my review above and I was trying to make it clearer.

anyway...

Dann, I think you definately took what I said the wrong way. War By Other Means is in my top 3 favorite local bands, and almost any show they play they're my favorite set. But they messed up a few times, there's no way around it, I'm not saying they weren't my favorite set of the night, that's just the fact of the matter. I am in a band, and I've played a show or two, and I fucked up endlessly, it's definately not as easy as it seems, especially when you haven't practiced for over 3 months. I know everyone in WarBOM and I don't think that any of them would assume I didn't enjoy them. - Thu, 18 Aug 2005 11:07am

We did play sloppily. What do you expect for a band that never practices?
Unfortunately though that was the LAST time you guys will ever see WBOM, since we are now over. So somebody start some new bands! - Thu, 18 Aug 2005 11:33am
