| Jesse The Malcontent User Info... | Summed up? Legends is a bad choice of venue for any local band to be appreciated. Odds are pretty good that most of the traffic through the bar will be vex-induced hoochie girls stumbling down the stairs and asking "what's on tonight?" and once it becomes apparent that "retro" and "80's" aren't in the cards disappear into obscurity. As far as the bands go: The Lonesome Valley Singers: Damn good. Never being held hostage by the available resources can please a crowd, spill their hearts and cuss at an audience and it doesn’t matter if it be The Spiral Café or Legends Nightclub. This was a great example of audience participation, Especially when it came down to an encore crowd of nine people. Bonus points on the fact that the encore song was 'wahne the man comes around' - Johnny Cash The Paper Cranes: At first I would unflinchingly claim that they were a generic HHH clone but in the course of the set they showed some heart, a good level of inguinuity, and over all they were great musicians with a good stage presence... and when they find their own Identity – I’ll find the time to check them out again. SuperNova: Save the best for last? Nope. Supernova was an un-kinetic group that was purely dictated by their frontwoman who was much more suited to lead a Stevie nicks/Fleetwood Mac cover band. Note: I’m not a big Fleetwood Mac fan. I think it's "neat" that Legends has devoted a night out of the week for local acts, but unfortunaty I can predict a pretty quick crash and burn. My guess is that once it dies, another theme night (house, 80's, wet T-shirt contest etc.) will fill it's place. - Thu, 21 Apr 2005 3:07am | ||
| Kris User Info... | hey so john. i'm in highschool english class, sitting by myself as the indie kid with a died black flock of seagulls haircut does, and we were doing song analyzing. and then, out of nowhere, some girl i don't even know got up and started analyzing A PAPER CRANES SONG. your song. i'll love you till my veins explode. and i was laughing so hard. just cause everyone else was doing like bob dylan and stuff, and then you guys came up. and the teacher was like HEY WHATS SO FUNNY. and i was like I know those guys. yep. sorry i couldn't come john, but as I mentioned I'm in highschool. hopefull after the albums done vincat and the paper cranes can play this summer. love, kris - Thu, 21 Apr 2005 8:05am | ||
| The Wolf User Info... | Lonesome Valley Singers- Amazing prescence on stage, great sound with minimum amount of equipment... Happy Birthday The Paper Cranes- Good sound, but it should not be a process of elimination to figure out the bands name ( A Pet Peeve).... Hello we are "The Paper Cranes..." at the start of the set, and a banner or drum skin...would suffice... and help those not in the know... Have to lose the keyboard use a "Sampler, Laptop... the I "Can't play the keyboards well.." line that was said twice was distracting for me... SuperNova- Nice voice but the last three songs rocked the best, Have to move them up to the front...Make a splash, I was too deep in my beer by the time the 3rd to last song came to get up again ... Pet Peeve #1 again...The process of elimination thing with guessing the Bands name again....(see above) Maybe you could work in a cover of LIZ PHAIR's - Supernova...? Pet Peeve #2 Guitarist is too busy triggering pedals with minimum effect on the bands sound... "I bring all my pedals to the gig cause I am going to use only two of them tonight... Play the guitar use the two three pedals without the entire board... wont have to spend the entire show looking down and triggering stuff" that goes for alot of bands...I can see if you are in a Cover band you need that but doing originals ? ... 2-3 Max... Thats just my opinion...I could be wrong Legends is a cool venue Lots of comfy seats...but If we don't start getting some people out it's going to be "Macarena Wednesday" like Jesse said... Thnks to the Legends staff for the good service and cheap drinks and low cover.. $2 ... - Thu, 21 Apr 2005 11:49am | ||

| Pubert User Info... | hey, thanks for the complements, we had a great time. i thought the paper cranes were fantastic, their songs were interesting and well written. i didn't get a chance to hang out with supernova but they were tight and their performance was strong. thanks for the booze, james, i had the worst hangover i've had in years. i'm surprised jesse and i didn't get into a drunken punch-up as we usually do, but we got into it tonight...the cocksucker - Sat, 23 Apr 2005 2:37am | ||
