As far as I know (though there is much debate) it won't really make much difference at all sonically. It will however be easier to get your beer in there.
Just take 'em off and see - you can always put 'em back. - Mon, 30 Dec 2002 12:30pm
Tycho Brahe I hear it brightens the tone a bit, but i've only ever played my Les Paul without the covers and I love the tone. - Tue, 31 Dec 2002 4:47pm

It makes a slight difference. I took the cover off my bridge(lead) pickup and it gives just that little bit more output and treble to it. I love the way it sounds and am defenitly keeping the cover off. I would keep the cover on the rhythm pickup though, sounds classier that way. - Fri, 3 Jan 2003 1:29pm

The main difference is that it makes it easier to break it. If you want more treble then turn the treble up, duh. All the guitar tech nuts I know recommend you leave them alone. - Wed, 29 Jan 2003 2:35pm
Tycho Brahe If that were the case, Scott, then why would Gibson produce Pauls without the covers? - Thu, 30 Jan 2003 1:48pm
