The greatest rocker in France has died. Its thursday at 10:22pm and he is on channel 112 now for an hour recorded playing live a few years ago with some very heavy guns. Last album bleu petrole took a clutch of awards recently and he performed it as he was dying of lung cancer. I dunno how to explain him except there is a bit of roy orbison, some Gene Vincent, some Bill Johnson, some Nick cave, some Leonard Cohen and some good harp. His lead player reminded me of Brian Gregory who ran off with the Cramps van and gear until he turns around and goes Delat, or suddenly plays guitar as if it was a theremin. The bass player reminded me of pigpen in the Guess who.

Yupe there goes the real thing. I think you can download this from tv5's website, the show acoustic is simply calling it "hommage a alain bashung".

The President of France stopped everything to speak to the nation about alain's death, its very very heavy stuff over there. It is as if Roy Orbison has just died. - Thu, 19 Mar 2009 10:25pm Edited: Thu, 19 Mar 2009 10:29pm

Hmmm. from your description, thi sounded really promising, but it was pretty bland stuff. Too much Leonard Cohen and not enough of the other guys you mentioned. Far from the greatest Rocker in France. Any idea what his first LP (from '77) sounds like. I can imagine this guy sdoing some weird punk/wave stuffm and THAT I'd like to hear. - Fri, 20 Mar 2009 8:07am

What did me in was the live studio set recorded and run the day after his death. - Thu, 9 Apr 2009 9:35pm
