Developers at Bear Mountain committing cultural genocide, aboriginal leaders charge.

The provincial government and Bear Mountain developers are committing cultural genocide by destroying a cave on Skirt Mountain that is sacred to aboriginal people, the land manager of the Songhees First Nation charged yesterday.

Why does it seem that the developers are racist?!? - Thu, 16 Nov 2006 12:29pm

I wouldn't say racist necessarily. Definately profit driven. - Thu, 16 Nov 2006 12:57pm

Everything is not always as it seems. First nations have been known to have alterior motives, and greed. I wouldn't be to quik to pull the racsist card. This is all about money, for sure. - Thu, 16 Nov 2006 6:16pm Edited: Thu, 16 Nov 2006 6:23pm

I know, it's just that it's a shame the cave was wrecked. Now if the natives were lying about the cave, well, karma's a bitch right? We have certain power points in the area (one is close to Mile 0), they protect us from bad things happen, one less power point gone could really fuck things up (think of it as a network, you gun one of the IPs and it could screw up the network). Now we know this cave was destroyed, but just think of all the sacred areas there not talking about. I wish I had the opportunity to visit the cave, to see what it looked like. - Thu, 16 Nov 2006 7:11pm Edited: Thu, 16 Nov 2006 7:14pm
