| The Wolf User Info... | Saw Depeche Mode at G.M place this week... What is it with Encores now... They are so planned into these shows now, they seem to have no meaning. The Show reaches it's end, the crowd yells for an Encore...And suddenly new images are coming up on the screen, Lights that had not been used during the show are suddenly coming on... Too trump it they have Two Sets of Encores... Seems so hollow to me, "If I was walking in their shoes" I would give my all during the Show and if the crowd was really hot (Busty) I might bother with a few songs , But it sure would not be pre-produced to the extreme - Fri, 18 Nov 2005 6:03pm | ||
| Pubert User Info... | it's because depeche mode are a bunch of douche bags, and they know their pinko audience is gonna be beggin' for more shit. whacka - Fri, 18 Nov 2005 10:43pm | ||
| Mutilashawn User Info... | you better fuck right off with your Depeche Mode slander Pubert!!!!!!!!! - Sat, 19 Nov 2005 1:10am | ||
| john User Info... | say what you will about depeche mode, but its true a planned encore is not really an encore, encores should be the kind of thing that a band only does a few times a tour, maybe a reunion type tour like depeche mode its a little more expected but especially for newer bands its just cocky and unimaginative to do enchores that are choreographed, planned and expected. - Sat, 19 Nov 2005 5:35pm | ||
| The Other Nick User Info... | The best is when the audience isn't even into the band, yet the band play their planned encore anyway. - Sun, 20 Nov 2005 7:24am | ||
| J. Rab User Info... | I witnessed that last night. - Sun, 20 Nov 2005 3:05pm | ||
| Peter Gardner User Info... | I remember Matt Good saying how a few months back he played a show at UBC (? One of the Universities in Vancouver anyway) and the crowd was acting like fools so he didnt play an encore, and the Student Council presidant who had booked the show threatened a law suit saying he didnt live up to the agreed deal. Ha. - Sun, 20 Nov 2005 3:54pm | ||
| Haden User Info... | The agreed deal was for him to do an encore??? Man, I couldn't imagine signing a contract that said I HAD to do an encore. I'm kinda sick of encores. Most of the time I leave before the encore even happens to beat the crowd leaving the venue. There have been some instances, (ironically I can't think of any off the top of my head) that the encore was definately in order, but these days, it only seems to take two morons clapping and acting like fools to get most bands back up on stage..... - Sun, 20 Nov 2005 4:22pm | ||
| Ward Ensemble User Info... | to the contrary, lucky bar was rather loud on tuesday night, but Three Inches of Blood did NOT do an encore. Most non-triumphant. - Sun, 20 Nov 2005 5:10pm | ||
| cooper User Info... | Don't you just love it when the band doesn't even leave the stage before doing an encore? They just put their instruments down and just hang out side-stage. Hello...we can see you standing there, smirking. - Mon, 21 Nov 2005 5:19pm | ||
| Mr. Hell User Info... | The only shows I have been to in the past ten years where I wanted an encore were Opeth, Strapping Young Lad and Zimmers Hole. Usually, after enduring witnessing a full show, I just want to go medicate in peace. - Mon, 21 Nov 2005 6:27pm | ||
| Zod User Info... | yup, encores are just expected now, and bands just plan on having them in advance. I've been too many shows, where the band gets through the encore they played out, and the crowd is hyped and wants more and you get nothing. it also doesn't help that in vancouver, theres an 11pm noise curfew on the arena's. So most bands try and have their show wrapped up between 10:45 and 11:05. I've only seen two bands go past 11:05. I think u2 played til 11:20 back in april, and pearl jam got close to 11:30 a few months back (which is the latest i've seen an arena show go to in vancouver). I think encores have become a few minutes for the band to take a break, get a drink, take a piss, and get a little rest. - Mon, 21 Nov 2005 7:11pm | ||
| The Box Drone User Info... | The Wolf: Yes, but it was a killer show none the less, wasn't it? I was thinking the same thing about the encores though... just seems a little odd. I always figured that it was their was of backing out if the crowd wasn't into it. I mean, DM fans are rabbid, and will almost always want more, but I figure that if they didn't cheer them back out, they probably wouldn't come back out. As a side note, my friend and I met Andrew Fletcher downtown the next day. - Tue, 22 Nov 2005 2:36pm | ||
