| john User Info... | what is a good, affordable, easy to us setup for making demos in my room? thanks. - Sun, 7 Aug 2005 12:49pm | ||
| _Griphin_ User Info... | My friend just bought a Audiophile 2496 4-in/4-out Audio card with MIDI and digital I/O which he plans to hook up to his mixer and record that way. http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Audiophile2496-main.html I wish I could remember the soundcard Garry Brainless uses to record to his computer. It works for him, even if he's surrounded by a ton of audio hardware and huge mixer. - Sun, 7 Aug 2005 1:15pm | ||
| john User Info... | id prefer something external - Sun, 7 Aug 2005 11:59pm | ||
| stringbender User Info... | Then look at the "external" soundcards on that same link. You can get Audiophile 2496 as a PCI card, a USB device, or a Firewire. - Mon, 8 Aug 2005 10:47am | ||
| BBJones User Info... | If you have a desktop computer with any half decent sound card, just get a cheap ass mixer to run stuff into if you can live with only recording one track at a time. You can start under $200 that way (cheap mixer, cables and shitty mics). It only gets more expensive from there... Of course the absolute cheapest is to just plug a mic into your soundcard, but that really sucks. Software may be the tricky thing to get if you aren't buying a computer device (like a MAudio interface since they all come with something crummy). But there is lots of free/shareware out there that should get you started. It all depends how much money you have, what you are trying to do how do you want to get it done. - Mon, 8 Aug 2005 2:01pm | ||
| _Griphin_ User Info... | I remember when I recorded the song I have her (search for _Griphin_) I ran a cable from my digitech pedal to the Aux In on the sound card, it sounded ok. - Mon, 8 Aug 2005 3:57pm | ||
| The Box Drone User Info... | I reccomend buying a behringer UB502 mixer from L&M for like $75 and an appropriate cord/adapter and just send it to your soundcards line in jack. That's what I do.. I don't even have a good soundcard, it's the cheap onboard shit that came with my motherboard... and I bet you'd be shocked at the quality I get out that setup. I also reccomend Cool Edit Pro 2.0 for recording sofware, it has a killer noise reduction feature - It's not too hard to find a pirated copy floating around. http://www.soundclick.com/escapefromwherever - check out 'for all this time' and 'sometimes' both were recorded with just a shitty $5 computer mic & then the sound was processed in cool edit. - Mon, 8 Aug 2005 7:37pm | ||
| _Griphin_ User Info... | Oh shit, I fergot to mention that I used WaveLab v4.00 to record the signal. Cool Edit Pro v2.0?!? - Mon, 8 Aug 2005 8:15pm | ||
| john User Info... | cool yeha i have adobe its ool from what i have done.... yeah something lik eht e 75 dollar behringer soudns good any other similar products? - Mon, 8 Aug 2005 11:33pm | ||
| BBJones User Info... | behringer and Alto are almost identical as far as cheap mixers/gear goes. I would recommend either one new so you get the warranty. Again all depends what you think you need. 4/8/16/24 channel...? The big thing you need to think about it what inputs/instruments need gain control? If you have stuff like digital keyboards etc, you can get away with a 1/4 line in on your mixer, but if you need to mic guitars/vocals, you should make sure you have enough XLR strips to support them. But really, just go buy some cheap crappy gear and get started with it. Then you'll know what you need. And if you buy new, and try to deal with the same guy at L&M (I recommend Mike for this type of stuff) you can always upgrade your gear for little penalty (usually the same as if you rented). So stop asking and just get started! - Tue, 9 Aug 2005 10:05am | ||
| The Professor User Info... | I'd recconmend picking up one of the little 2 channel usb soundcard/preamp boxes. m-audio makes a cheap one for about $200 that's got everything you need all together, super easy and really portable. I've got that kinda setup for my laptop and it's sweet. plus, when I'm not using it as a soundcard, use the box as a preamp for my sax on the way into my delay pedal for live shows, or I use it as a bass di. Mine's an Edirol, butI tihnk they are a bit more expensive. - Fri, 19 Aug 2005 1:11am | ||
