I definately have to put my vote in for Barnes...
He was probably the biggest inspiration I had to get into death metal in the first place....

Stripped, Raped and Strangled
Skull Full of Maggots
Hammer Smashed face

But I still like what Corpsegrinder has done... not too big of a fan of Vile... but Gore Obcessed is fucking brutal

There we go... my 2 cents

Well Barnes is good, and some of Cannibal Corpse's best work was done with him on vocals, no question.

However I think Corpsegrinder is the better vocalist. His screams and growls have an edge to them that I just don't hear in Barnes' voice.

The Corpse box set has a version of 'Devoured by Vermin' with Barnes on vocals as well as the album version with Fisher. It makes for a really interesting comparison. I like 'em both about the same, at least back before Barnes blew out his voice. I'm not such a huge fan of the horror-show lyrics anymore, but the music still holds up fine, vocals included. - Fri, 29 Jul 2005 2:27pm

I Vote for CG. The early CC I can't decipher ol' Barnsey with out reading the CD booklet. When Fisher sings you can understand nearly everything he says which is rare for a death metal vocalist. Plus he can spit out the lyrics twice as fast too, that's always a plus. - Fri, 29 Jul 2005 4:21pm

mmmmm who do I like better? The cookie monster or.....the cookie monster? I'd have to pick Barnes but I think that has more to do with when I got into CC, not his overwhelming abilities. - Sat, 30 Jul 2005 1:49am

If anyone ever refers to a vocal style as "cookie-monster" again, i will time travel back and kill everyone involved in the making of seseme street, their families, and the families of those who made the comment "cookie monster vocals"

this must stop. apparently people who don't like death metal (and some that do) have no originality. can't you guys come up with a new way of describing said types of vocal styles.

GO!

It's not our fault that most death metal vocalists sound like they're trying to impersonate cookie monster. - Sat, 30 Jul 2005 11:38am
