| bastard User Info... | If you are planning to become a world famous band and want to to ensure that no one else will ever use or have your same name, then yes you should copyright the name. Anything less than that, there is no real point. What is important is that you ensure propritary rights to the music that is recorded so that you will own your songs. In the event of another band with the same name trying to mess with your shit, you will have it on record that it was recorded, performed by your band at this time so there would be no question. I think you can get the forms from any major cd duplication website or facility (try http://www.predisc.com) although I'm not sure - Wed, 27 Jul 2005 7:05am | ||
| Jace User Info... | An easy way to copyright your stuff is to mail it to yourself after it's recorded. Keep the receipt and don't open it. - Wed, 27 Jul 2005 8:47am | ||
| jotaerre User Info... | The "poor man's copyright" is not a valid approach. It's easy to "Google" and find discussions of this. For example: http://www.copyrightauthority.com/poor-mans-copyright/ - Mon, 1 Aug 2005 10:12am | ||
| Kris User Info... | john dude! i saw a band named papercranes on a mix disk the other day - Mon, 1 Aug 2005 11:20am | ||
| BC Blackout! User Info... | I used to work in the film industry, specifically in a screenwriters' resource centre, and you should be able to copyright through the intellectual property office. that's who does it. mailing written stuff to yourself is not copyrighting and can only prove the date it was written, nothing more. and you can't register titles (so I presume band names, album titles, song titles), and most importantly you can't copyright ideas. so if you hear a song just like yours, tough shit. the best thing you can do if someone steals your band name or songs is to threaten, harrass then go beat the crap out of them. - Mon, 1 Aug 2005 10:18pm | ||
