Isn't Central Bar and Grill under boycott for sleazily stealing shows from Lucky?

I'd be curious to hear an elaboration on this.

/not by any chance anything to do with that hotshot big city promoter with her head too far up her ass to wonder what the fuck she was doing here, was it?

The Blow (K Records) is opening for The Hidden Cameras on their west coast dates. Atomique is putting on the show, and they seem to do shows at both Lucky and Central so I don't know about stealing...

I'm excited to go somewhere new for a show. I'm sure the venue will end up sucking, like everybody says, but at least it's different. - Tue, 25 Jan 2005 5:03pm

The Central is actually a pretty good venue with an excellent PA and a good sound guy (be nice to him; he can get grumpy). The only weird thing if you're playing there is that it's also a restaurant so you sometimes get to play to people eating their dinner which is kind of strange. $15 is cheap for this show, the Cameras are red hot right now... - Tue, 25 Jan 2005 6:13pm

i dunno. $15 is a lot for any show. i'd have to think twice before i would pay $15 to see led zeppelin. - Thu, 27 Jan 2005 12:06pm

WHAT?! Come on man, you'd pay $15 for 2 pitchers of beer, I bet!

Hidden Cameras are excellent - part of the 'back to melody' movement of indie rock, you know, along with Sufjan Stevens... whose name I may be misspelling.

i'm exaggerating. and yes, i would definitely pay $15 dollars for 2 pitchers of beer because that's really cheap. - Thu, 27 Jan 2005 4:54pm

Ooooh! $15 for 2 pitchers... that does give Led Zeppelin a run for their money. Well: I can't decide. - Thu, 27 Jan 2005 6:20pm

Heck I'm over in scotland right now and people have heard of the hidden cameras here too. I was amazed when i brought them up and this guy was all oh yeah they are great and he had their disk and stuff. lots of the lesser know canadian bands are big in scotland but they've never heard of bands like Metric and Teagan and Sarah who are huge..it surprises me when someone is talking about the unicorns but has no idea who metric is. - Fri, 28 Jan 2005 12:58am

Who the fuck are metric? I actually grew Tegan and Sara in my basement in a flower pot made from an old boot. They still come and visit, from time to time. - Fri, 28 Jan 2005 9:52am

Tegan and Sara are not huge outside of North America. And I don't even think that Metric have broken into the US yet.

Not a diss, I think both are incredible. - Fri, 28 Jan 2005 4:31pm

Wait... let's get back to this $15... It is a bloody rip off... How does being big require you to rip people off? Maybe we should establish a base line ticket price. We did for booze, now we should do it for shows. Fine if you want to pay it but it is still overpriced. Sorry! - Mon, 31 Jan 2005 5:33pm

$120 is a rip off for a show.

$15 for a travelling indie rock band? There are what? 7 mouths to feed in the group?

If they roll up in a blinged out hummer and have a legion of roadies, you might have a case but I reckon they are just trying to make a reasonable profit so they don't have to go back to some day job in Toronto and put out another record.

That being said... they may have out-priced themselves as I am sort of interested to see them, but not $15 interested. If they sell out, then I'll eat crow on that one :-) They have lots of videos and samples on their website if you want to scope them out before buying... http://www.musicismyboyfriend.com - Mon, 31 Jan 2005 6:08pm

fifteen dollars seems reasonable when keeping in mind the 10 people or so in the band, and thus the ton of gear to haul, mouths to feed, vans to rent, etc.

i, for one, am looking forward to the show!
though, the venue does indeed suck. - Mon, 31 Jan 2005 11:47pm

sam's in the hiiiiouse!

I don't think that this is a case of a hungry band with "seven mouths to feed," but rather a systemic problem at central bar. Have you noticed that all the shows there are >$15?

Do they have some weird deal where they skim off the gate or some shit?

I'd love to see hidden cameras, but i think that its more of a $10 show. that $5 makes all the difference. - Wed, 2 Feb 2005 2:17am
