From the Red Cat Records mailing list:

To all,

This is a late night and somewhat drunken missive so please bear with me... many of you will be very depressed to find out that earlier today (Thursday), the legendary Ray Condo passed away from a heart attack.

I wish I could be more eloquent about this... Ray would have been... many people have no idea what a giant impact he had upon the Vancouver (and Canadian, and North American) Roots scene. Since the late 70's, Ray and his bands, The Hard Rock Goners, The Ricochets, and most recently, The Geezers (and probably a half dozen more), have been performing some of the best Western Swing music you could ever wish to hear. Nobody, but nobody, ever did it better. He was a consummate musician and songwriter. You don't get to call to many people "the real deal", but Ray was all of that and much more. In addition, he was a real gentleman... in the very best sense of the word. We never really knew what a treasure we had with Ray. I hope as many of you as possible had a chance to see him perform, because unfortunately, our last chance has passed us by.

Ray was supposed to be playing Friday night (April, 16th aka tonight) at The WISE HALL. The show will probably still go on, regardless. I don't know what the whole deal will be, but some kind of celebration of his life would most likely be in order. For further information, you could call the WISE at 604-254-5858. Otherwise the address is 1882 Adanac Street.
