just curious Question for everyone.Would there be a good draw for a good
old school metal cover band? Shit like metallica, priest,
megadeath,ac/dc,motorhead,maiden etc.
Some originals on the way but not ready yet. - Sun, 30 Mar 2003 8:38pm
Mike J. I never go out for cover bands. Originals is what I want. I can always put on a CD at home for what cover bands play. - Sun, 30 Mar 2003 8:47pm

fuck that garbage, play shit people have actually heard of man. playing obscure nonsense doesn't do it, go for the obvious, it's covers....YOU FUCKING HEARD ME!!!!!!! - Mon, 31 Mar 2003 6:29am
Troy Your a moron, no one will know who those bands are. They'll think your just a really terrible band playing really terrible music. Instead of a really terrible band playing really terrible BUT identifiable music. - Mon, 31 Mar 2003 12:54pm
jason To Mike K... You dont even like heavy metal music, so why reply. If there was a blues cover band, like the one you are trying to get going, then you would go see it, am i not right? - Mon, 31 Mar 2003 1:07pm

I have to agree with the above. Only true heavy Metal guys as myself have every Savatage album, so in order to pull it off, you need the identifiable. Savatage kick ass, al petrilli went on to join megadeth before Dave fucked his hand. I saw the very first show with Al Petrilli on guitars. Exodus, i have a few of their albums. But for the Rest, I have never heard of, besides a couple.I am currently in a Heavy Metal band that plays covers. What we are trying to do is get the tunes that were big for each of the major old school guys. Judas priest, Metallica, Sabbath, Ozzy, megadeth, Alice Cooper, ACDC, even some Alice in Chains. The main thing is, I believe, if you are going to cover those tunes, you best know how to get it right. Usually it is not as long as you keep the beat like alot of dance bands do, you must make sure u have the crucial kick ass landmarks in each. I find heavy metal dudes really listen to the music and not just the beat. SO YES I WOULD GO AND SEE YOUR BAND, its what this town needs. Good luck - Mon, 31 Mar 2003 1:08pm
Anonymous good for you, dustin. you can spew off a bunch of band names. *applause*

Well I've seen plenty of cover bands...

Ones that work are either talented beyond belief, or have a gimmick.

Not to slag Whip (since I loved their last show at Steamers) but they go on more of the gimmick thing. Stage clothes, the moves, playing the crowd etc...

Just being able to cover songs well doesn't make a great cover band. As with all bands but more importantly in cover bands, you need great vocals. Music is always less important unless you play for other musicians.

That's my $0.05 - Mon, 31 Mar 2003 2:05pm
