Ike Hey,

I have a PC recording setup in my home. I have some pretty good gear, including a good condenser mic and a Beta 58. My problem is that the room is too boomy. I can work the mic a little, but when I sing loud the room just resonates too much. So I'm thinking about building some sort of vocal booth and I'm wondering if anyone else has done this. I was thinking I could just hinge together 3 pieces of plywood in a kind of half octagon shape and just line the inside with high density foam. Then I could just throw it behind my Mic. If anyone has any tips, I would like to hear them.

Ike Thank you for the clarification. Do you have any tips on how to build a vocal booth? - Wed, 19 Mar 2003 12:30pm
ML7Mike I built one once, and have looked at a number of them.. basically as with any sound room, your best sound will be achieved if no two walls are the same.. I dont quite know how to explain it, but each wall should be a different angle to the others so that soundwaves cannot bounce back and forth from two parallel walls... The one I helped build we used rubber from old wetsuits ( you can get this at the dive or surf shops ) and put strips of it under the bottom plates of the walls and around the door jam to reduce vibration noise and increase soundproofing.. - Wed, 19 Mar 2003 12:32pm
Anonymous a compressor with a noise gate will also help. but it depends how bad it is in the first place. - Wed, 19 Mar 2003 12:38pm
