damn the shittty local music scene!! where have all the bands gone? there hasnt been one good show since the kiltlifters played an all ages, theres freaking 20 moneyshot shows and nothing else, where the hell has the variety gone?? and whats with this "the zone" bullshit all we see now on every venue is money shot and a million bands that sound like nickelback, they should be paying us to watch them
would someone one with alot of time on their hands and want to make a couple of extra bucks please put some shows together....
damn victoria!! damn!! - Tue, 18 Feb 2003 11:50pm
i only live here. the bars don't pay us, the radio won't give us a chance.
so we are promoting our music in vancouver and seattle and even the world. even if we don't get payed, there are clubs in those citys that can attact an audiance. instead of this town the clubs expect the bands alone fill the club with all their friends, charge five dollars each, drink all there liquoir and not pay the band one cent.

we have our music played on three european radio stations, yet 'the zone' after taking the two CD's and asking if they will help support our modern rock band, they ignore us.
so fuck this town, i do my music for me and who ever likes it.
if i have to get my german friend over every couple weeks to help me read german email, cost of feeding him booze while he reads and sending free CD's to europe, is far cheaper and more productive than trying to put on a show in the city of the nearly dead.

i love the whaether though. - Wed, 19 Feb 2003 3:41pm

Brett Just a question for everybody, the guy a couple messages above was complaining about all the "wannabe" punk/metal bands in victoria. I just want to know what the fuck makes a band a "wannabe" band and what makes a band "real". is commercial success ? if it is i think thats bullshit, just because a band isn't big , doesn't make them wannabes. same thing goes for anything, for example just because someone isn't a pro skateboarder for example doesn't mean they're a wannabe skater. i think people use the term wannabe to loosely - Sun, 23 Feb 2003 6:17pm

What you meant to say was, you are one to talk, 'You're' being the contraction of you and are. I actually like the the typo. I think Meatalhead pretty much sums it up. - Mon, 24 Feb 2003 9:09pm

The music scene here has had its ups and downs over the years but it kicks the shit out of almost anywhere else in the world that is a similar sized city. The main reason is the remoteness from mass media influence. The scenes from Athens GA, Minneapolis and Seattle originated because the music bigwigs never went there so the bands were allowed to grow up without having pressure put on them to be just like what's currently popular. New Zealand and Iceland even belong to our select group of locations. If you don't like it move to LA and form a Chili Peppers clone band. - Thu, 27 Feb 2003 2:00pm
