Scott Gillies, originally from Viking, Alberta, now lives in the Strawberry Vale district of Vancouver Island. After completing a science degree in Forestry from the UofA, Scott worked in the Forestry industry for six years taking him to Northern BC, Alberta, Northern Ontario and Missouri. This science background and appreciation for nature was a constant influence on Scott’s art. Scott was passionate about art from the earliest age and began sculpting soapstone at the age of 15 but it wasn’t until 2006 that Scott decided to study art at a higher level. Moving to Vancouver to study Animation Art & Design was a life changing experience that set him on his current path. The program was well rounded in the foundations of art and so Scott studied sculpture, design, drawing, and many other classes that have helped to enrich Scott’s art. After 18 months he completed the diploma and was approached by Nerd Corps Entertainment, a tv cartoon studio in Vancouver, to work as a professional character animator. Scott spent almost five years bringing characters to life and working his way up from a Junior Animator up to Animation Supervisor. During this period of time Scott continued to hone his skills of sculpture, illustration, filmmaking, painting and photography.
Scott now owns and operates an animation, illustration and video production company called Azara Effect Productions.

In 2010 Scott began to sculpt marble, granite, driftwood and even chicken wire. These different mediums each offer unique challenges and opportunities that Scott enjoys exploring. Scott continues to be inspired by the nature that surrounds him and abundance of natural beauty that Vancouver Island has to offer.
Since Scott began to take sculpture more seriously he has had sculptures in Oak Bay’s ArtsAlive, Nanaimo’s public art program, The Bateman Foundation Gallery of Nature's 'OneTree' Exhibit as well as being an active member of the Vancouver Island Sculptors Guild.
