Helen Rogak

Event Description

Helen Rogak was born in Ironwood Michigan in 1937. After graduating in 1960 from the University of Michigan, where she majored in oil painting, she worked for 4 years as a commercial artist. Coming to Canada in 1964, she moved to North Saanich, BC in 1967.

A member of the Victoria art scene since the 1970's, she had many group and solo exhibitions in Canada and the US, and her works are in public and private collections across North America and Europe.

Rogak was known primarily for her large impressionist oils of fields and gardens, local forests and rocky shorelines, but was also a deft painter of the human figure, isolated or in the landscape.

In 2015, Rogak exhibited a series of large paintings of Ironwood’s historic buildings at Finlandia University in Hancock Michigan.

Helen Rogak died peacefully at home on Oct 17, and is survived by her husband of 66 years, Earl Rogak, two children and four grandchildren, and two brothers.

A retrospective show and sale of her work will be held in her waterfront studio at 618 Lands End Rd on December 12 and 13 from 10-3pm
