Event Description
The Emily Carr String Quartet Society is proud to present Music InsideOUT: Haydn, April 12th, 2025. Venue is the Chief's and Petty Officers Mess in Esquimalt. Tea, coffee, and sundries will be served at 10:30am followed by discussion, analysis, and a full performance of Haydn's Opus 51 'Seven Last Words of Christ' for string quartet.
Our host, Robert Holliston, an accomplished accompanist and chamber player, has performed throughout Canada, the USA, England, New Zealand, and has been heard frequently on CBC-Radio. A popular public speaker, Robert has given pre-performance lectures for Pacific Opera Victoria since 1993 and is POV’s Principal Coach. Robert is currently Head of Keyboard at the Victoria Conservatory of Music, where he also teaches piano and music history, and acts as vocal coach. Robert was a founding director of the VCM Opera Studio.
Formed in 2006 by members of the Victoria Symphony, the Emily Carr String Quartet has established itself as one of British Columbia’s finest chamber music ensembles renowned for its passionate and inspiring performances. They have participated in residencies at Stanford University and the Banff Centre and have collaborated and recorded with such artists as: the Lafayette String Quartet, Lorraine Min, Marion Newman, Jamie Parker and Arthur Rowe. The quartet has been presented by numerous concert events such as the International Society for Contemporary Music's 2017 World Music Days, Music in the Morning and Music on Main concert series in Vancouver, the Ankara Music Festival in Turkey, Hornby Festival and the Victoria Summer Music Festival.
