Victoria Folk Music Society weekly gathering; Everyone welcome jam 6:45pm, Open Stage 7:30pm, Feature Performers Kristina Olsen and Michael Dunn at 9pm; Norway House, 1110 Hillside Ave, $8 (cash only)
Kristina Olsen is a superb multi-instrumentalist as well as an award-winning songwriter with a big bluesy voice that has audiences around the world coming back for more. Her mix of powerful songs ranging from sassy bottleneck blues to lilting ballads to swing jazz to raunch and roll (as well as her hilarious storytelling) makes for a diverse and satisfying musical experience on stage, on disc, and in book!
BC luthier extraordinaire, Michael Dunn has himself been playing guitar since age 11 when he first heard Elvis. Discovering a guitar store in Vancouver where he got a chance to start repairing instruments, in 1964, Michael soon found his way to Spain and served an apprenticeship under several third generation guitar makers. 700 stringed instruments later and the rest is history!
First crossing paths at the Puget Sound Guitar Workshop in the ’80s, Kristina and Michael reconnected in 2021 and he finally built her her own Dunn guitar! They started playing together, then doing some concerts until today with their new music tipping it's hat to their beginnings: gypsy jazz infiltrating world music, blues, and songwriting….seemingly out of context but that is where the magic starts!
