About Flashdance Deluxe
Winter blues setting in? Flashdance Deluxe promises to transport you to another time and get you moving… the 80’s way!
Krista Muir, composer/performer and Cultural Producer at The Screening Room, has been busy enhancing Cult Classics with “deluxe” events. Her upcoming Flashdance Deluxe is a celebration marking the 40th anniversary of this dark, dramatic dance film starring Jennifer Beals as a passionate young dancer who aspires to become a professional ballerina. An evening of 80's fashion (dress up and you could win big!), aerobics and pre-show footage from the vintage vaults of Kingston and beyond.
Muir will also screen her “Soleil Blue Ciel” music video and lead the audience in a “warm up” and “cool down” during the opening and closing credits of the film.
Prizes for the costume contest include The Screening Room swag and gift cards for the Kingston School of Dance who are holding a cabaret night in support of student funding programs - Jewels and Jesters - on January 21st. It's a whole weekend celebrating DANCE in KINGSTON! So get your shoes laced and up and let's get moving!
Please note this is a "mask-on" event for maximum inclusivity. Cinema fans who are immune compromised or have other health vulnerabilities have called for venues to host mask-only nights so we're heeding the call. Please bring your preferred mask, socially distance when possible and only remove mask when eating/drinking. Thanks for helping us make our space safer and more welcoming to all!
Leg-warmers, headbands and cut-off sweatshirts are not included in the price of admission. Warning: Flashdance contains a sequence of flashing lights during one scene which may affect audience members who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy or other photosensitivities.
About Krista Muir
Krista Muir grew up in Kingston, Ontario in the 80’s and took ballet and jazz at Kingston School of Dance as well as co-founding the “Health Angels” youth aerobics troupe. Inspired by the Flashdance soundtrack and the birth of MTV, she went on to a career in the performing arts - composing and recording original music, creating videos and touring globally. In the words of the late, great Irene Cara, "Take your passion and make it happen – pictures come alive, you can dance right through your life!"
For physical events that happen at a specific time. For example a concert, or dance performance. If there are multiple shows, you can still duplicate your event to cover them all.
