April 30 A 60s Folk Revival Concert: Part One

Those of us (most of us?) who grew up in the 1960s will remember it as an exciting time of innovation, “trad” mixing with “singer/songwriter” to create a potent musical mix with sooooo many great songs! This evening, hosted by Denis Donnelly, will be dedicated to the music of that era, with many of your favourite Victoria Folk performers bringing in songs they learned then and that they have loved and never forgotten. We’ll have songs from groups like Peter Paul and Mary, maybe even the Kingston Trio, and then of course Dylan, Donovan, Joan Baez, Pete Seeger, Gordon Lightfoot, Tom Paxton… the list is endless! And we’ll not only have songs from the North American Revival but also songs from the wonderful British Folk Revival, which was as strong there as here, with musicians re-discovering the deep wealth of trad song in the British Isles. When Denis first started asking people to come and perform, the response was so overwhelming that we now have two full evenings scheduled — Part Two will be on May 28th! Due to the VERY FULL program, there will not be time for any Open Sage performers either night, but, as always, there will be boundless opportunity for all to sing-along throughout! You don’t want to miss this – it’s going to be epic!!
