Event Description

One of the nation’s finest saxophonists, P.J. Perry brings his top-drawer quartet of Canadian jazz talent to the Shadbolt stage for one night only! Joining Perry will be pianist Chris Gestrin, bassist Neil Swainson and drummer Ethan Olynk.

P.J. Perry has shared the stage with countless jazz greats such as Dizzy Gillespie, Woody Shaw, Michel LeGrand, Pepper Adams, Kenny Wheeler, Tom Harrell, and The Boss Brass among others. His discography numbers seven albums, receiving a Juno nomination for his 1999 Justin Time Records release featuring P.J. and the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and winning Best Jazz Recording for his album My Ideal (1993). His most recent, P.J. Perry Trio features guitarist Reg Shwager and bassist Neil Swainson.

P.J. also received Jazz Report magazine’s Critic’s Choice Award for Best Alto Sax for a record seven years from 1993 to 1999. P.J. has recently been performing his own show The Joy of Sax with orchestras across the country including the Edmonton Symphony, Winnipeg Symphony, Saskatoon Symphony, Kamloops Symphony, Hamilton Philharmonic, Montreal.
