Ambient Fourth World Electronic from Galiano Island BC
The 6th Edition of Wonderment opens with ambient and electro-acoustic performances by
ELISA THORN (Vancouver BC)
Since graduating from the UBC School of Music in 2011, Elisa Thorn has become a much sought after addition to the Canadian creative music scene, known for her skilled use of extended techniques, electronic effects, and unconventional uses of harp. Her music, which combines influences of post-rock, jazz, classical and indie, is propelled by two artistic objectives: firstly, how to create music that is both abstract and accessible; and secondly, how to lead a band with harp in a way does not compromise sensitivity with it’s boldness, or aesthetic beauty with it’s curiosity. Interested in the intersection between composed and improvised music, she is involved with many projects including HUE, The Giving Shapes and Gentle Party, who released an album under the Phonometrograph label that was longer-listed for the Polaris Prize in 2017.
METEORIC TWIN (Galiano Island BC)
Meteoric Twin is an electronic music duo based on what is known as Galiano Island. They use altered voice, field recordings, modular synthesis, and rhythm to create ambient, other world music rooted in feminist sci-fi and sung in the constructed language Láadan.
ABOUT THIS EVENT
This FREE event takes place at the Cameron Bandshell in Beacon Hill Park. This 6th edition of Wonderment is presented by the Garden City Electronic Music Society (GCEMS), and is supported by the Government of Canada, the Province of British Columbia, the BC Arts Council, the Capital Regional District and the City of Victoria. Donations are greatly appreciated and can be made online (GCEMS is a CRA-registered charity) at www.gcems.ca.
Please "Pack-It-In / Pack-It-Out" should you bring food and drink into the park, and remember there is no smoking in CRD public parks. Please also be respectful of physical distancing (sanitizer and masks will be available if needed). We are just returning to "normalcy" and other people may have varying degrees of comfort about how close they are in proximity to others. This area of the park can also have mosquitoes around dusk, so prepare accordingly.
