Event Description
As part of the Guest House series of events, Open Space is hosting Reclaiming Space, an arts exhibition put on by the newly-formed ColorQoded Collective, a QTIPOC (queer, trans, Indigenous, and People of Colour) arts collective whose mandate is to serve the IPOC and LGBTQ communities, with a focus on creating space and visibility for QTIPOC art creators. The showcase will end with a night of performance Tuesday 5 June from 6-9pm.
Our theme for this event is Reclaiming Space. As in how does art allow self-identified QTIPOC artists to reclaim spaces that have been denied to them? What does space look like for QTIPOC pies, and how can we hold it for each other? Is it a safe space to grieve, space to celebrate ourselves, or space in which we can be free to be our most authentic selves? How do we negotiate a struggle for carving out spaces of our own while simultaneously acknowledging our occupation of stolen and unceded territories of Indigenous peoples?
Admission is free, but all donations go towards paying the artists for their amazing work.
For physical events that happen at a specific time. For example a concert, or dance performance. If there are multiple shows, you can still duplicate your event to cover them all.
