“The young Sudanese singer and her Brooklyn-based troupe are a riot of melody and beats.” – THE SKINNY
Alsarah & The Nubatones play an eclectic and highly danceable mix of Arabic-inflected East African music. After fleeing her hometown of Khartoum, Sudan with her activist parents, Alsarah relocated to the United States where she was immediately attracted to music, becoming both a performer and, later, a musicologist. A powerful and mesmerizing singer, Alsarah founded The Nubatones in 2010 and has since released two great CDs and toured all over North America and Europe. The band’s so-called “Nubian pop” is a unique fusion representing a bold and beautiful form of contemporary African music.
