Talk Summary
Inspired by poetry from Refugium: Poems for the Pacific, twenty-two visual and performing artists responded to a selection of poems from the anthology edited by Yvonne Blomer. The resulting art exhibition curated by Regan Rasmussen features a wide range of media reflecting a love and concern for the Pacific Ocean and its lifeforms. The poems provided inspiration for artists to shape their interpretive responses. Negotiating an entry point varied for each artist – words, phrases, passages evoked images, triggered memories and experiential connections to inform the creative process. In the gallery, a group of artists will offer insights into their process of response and several poets will read poetry from the anthology. This hour of interactive conversation promises to connect artists, poets and guests through a shared love of the ocean.
