There are many festivals these days, but the organizers and volunteers involved in Velvet Rut Express Fest are dedicated to setting up an accessible and affordable one day festival that features multi-genre, original, and independent music by vibrant, relevant, and interesting musicians.

Don't want to pay a fortune to see a bunch of top 40 bands at a giant festival where you are fenced into a compound and are not allowed outside food or drink? Velvet Rut Express Fest is the alternative. This by-donation event is host to two stages and features performers from all different genres and backgrounds. With 13 different acts there is something everyone, young and old.

The Velvet Rut Express fest boasts two stages that are located in Water Wheel park, down town Chemainus, whithe play structures and a supervised DIY craft center for kids.

How about food, you say?

The Arts Coucil will sell hamburgers, hot dogs, and veggie dogs. Also, there are restaurants and cafes in town. AND a craft beer sampling station! Waterwheel park is in the centre of the town

At The Velvet Rut Express Fest there are no fences and no surprise expenses. Just easy times and good tunes.

** There will be a Velvet Rut Express swag raffle held for those who donate and/or buy raffle tickets **

(Suggested donation $10)

But How Do I Get There?

Chemainus is an hour and 45 minutes from Victoria. There are buses. We will also be setting up a ride share. If you need a ride, use the comment section on the facebook event page

There is also a ferry from Salt Spring and a Bus from Nanaimo.

Chemainus is too much fun and you want to stay the night?

The music is a unique mix of folk, punk, and klezmer. The effect can be at times haunting, confrontational, or just absurd. Sometimes all three at the same t... more info

Rugged Uncle (Stadium Rock)

Rock and roll music. Includes members of Immaculate Machine, The Paper Cranes, Western Birds, and more. Influences: Thin Lizzy, Brian Eno (Here Come The Warm Jets), The National. more info

Black Valley Gospel

Black Valley Gospel’s innovative sound is the combination of old blues and gospel records, the slow dark riffs of Black Sabbath and the sentimental melodies of artists such as Roy Orbison, Connie Francis and Brenda Lee. more info

OH! OGOPOGO! (Children\'s Music: Punk Rock Folk For Kids)

Oh! Ogopogo! is music for children – but they are no ordinary children’s music act. Oh! Ogopogo! encourages children to get up and dance, yell and sing along. This is fast, furious and exciting music for active kids who want to get down to some catchy tunes. But wait! There’s more! Oh! Ogopogo won’t drive the adults in the room nuts. Sure,... more info
