Come out to party with Compassion Gorilla as we celebrate the completion of the new album, "Volta! Volta!". The night will feature an extra-long dance set with some some special surprises and additions, and performances from DJ Co-Captain, Bucan Bucan, and the Ghostbirds! At Swans Nightclub, 506 Pandora Ave, below the Brewpub.

In addition to this being an album release, this will also be Compassion Gorilla's LAST Victoria show before disappearing down the coast to tour in Mexico for a few months, where we will be translating all our riffs into spanish, and developing new treats for special delivery upon our return. Of course we will miss you while we're gone, and we want to have one more big night of dancing with y'all before we go!

DJ Co-Captain will be on the decks throughout the night, makin you bounce to some bass-loaded world beats and funked up percussive grooves. Bučan Bučan will be making the trip all the way from Bučanistan to perform at this show, and the Ghostbirds will be making their mysterious arrival on their ship of skin and bones. Given the lengths these folks are going to for this show, we want to encourage you all to contribute to the atmosphere, to make the night extra magical. Show up dressed for the circus and get in for $10, otherwise cover is $12.

Compassion Gorilla:

From Victoria B.C., Compassion Gorilla brings a unique concoction of worldbeat, latin folk, dub and psychedelic music. The band enwraps audiences in a spell of dance, magic and melody with racy horn lines, brazen guitar harmonies, driving hand-percussion rhythms, thick basslines, and full-bodied vocal harmonies.

Co-Captain (aka. Dylan Gale) is based on Saturna Island, Canada where he wildcrafts forest plants, grows veggies and turns up the bass. As a dj he is known for getting the crowd bumpin and jumpin with his fertile blend of bass-loaded world beats and funked up percussive grooves. Bringing together a diversity of musical styles, Co-Captain blends a potent mixture of fun as he launches his happy-go-lucky energy onto the dance floor. He has been producing for a couple years now, always trying to make things that sound different than normal and are groovey. He has collaborated with his good friend Chris Fretwell, which has helped him bring funky latin influences into his music. He is perhaps best known for his Cookie Monsteresque dj face which shows itself when he is really digging it.

Bučan Bučan:

Bučan Bučan (pronounced loudly as "booCHAN booCHAN") is a ensemble of musicians, inspired by Eastern European brass band traditions. Bučan Bučan puts a modern spin on traditional Balkan music, with spontaneous, theatrical performances that are not to be missed!
