The Hugh Fraser Quartet performs at El Barrio 2270 East Hastings Street.
Vancouver's legendary Juno Award Winning jazz trombonist, Hugh Fraser launches a fresh new quartet featuring longtime colleague Dave Robbins on drums, Canadian guitar icon, Bill Coon and innovative bassist, Tommy Babbin.
This rare prophetic appearance will resonate with Fraser's fearless forward force and velocity through his horn, and will turn this evening into a celebration through the music of J.J. Johnson, Max Roach and Hugh Fraser himself including a debut dedicated to past Vancouver mayor and global civil rights contributor, Sam Sullivan.
Hugh's trombone playing is in the Editor's Pick of Downbeat Magazine for 2011 with the Monterey Jazz All-Stars’ recent DVD release featuring David Sanchez, Giovanni Hidalgo, El Negro (Carlos Santana's drummer) and his longtime Cuban colleague and fellow Irakere member, Maraca at the Havana Opera House.
Hugh will be giving a sneak preview to his full time re-entry to his spiritual home called Vancouver.
This Quartet will resonate in what Hugh thinks is Vancouver's most exciting music venue which addresses the honest intense need for the whole spectrum of honest and energized sonic activity in our public spaces spreading joy, peace and love through music.
