New York City based artist Shelley Hirsch performs an inventive collage of music by the late American film composer, Bernard Hermann, as well as a tribute to eccentric American composer Jerry Hunt. In song and spoken word, Hirsch delivers politically and emotionally charged works.
Opening this concert is an appearance by The Victoria Complaints Choir, an ensemble of choral agitators who take the public’s grievances to a new level. The Victoria Complaints Choir will additionally perform at various undisclosed downtown locations on the afternoon of Saturday, May 8. Hirsch will lead a vocal workshop on May 13th, 7pm, that explores extended vocal techniques, narrative, and story-telling. This is a rare opportunity to work closely with an internationally recognized vocal artist. ($5)
Open Space’s festival, Voice ++ 2010, highlights the voice as a dynamic and transgressive instrument. Voice ++ surveys vocal ensembles, solo performance, a complaints choir and vocal workshops.
