Edmonton-born, New York-based John Stetch is the latest in a long line of Canadian pianists- from Oscar Peterson to Paul Bley to Renee Rosnes- to impact the jazz scene. Billboard Magazine calls him "exceptional", while JazzTimes gives accolades for his unlimited imagination, unique harmonic and rhythmic concepts and the digital dexterity to execute any idea he hears." In addition to performing solo or with his trio (Greg Ritchie drums, Nicholas Walker bass) Stetch has worked with Rufus Reid, Billy Hart, Seamus Blake, and James "Blood" Ulmer. His lengthy discography includes a solo trilogy (Ukrainianisms, Standards, Exponentially Monk) on Justin Time that garnered huge international praise. A new CD, John Stetch & the TV Trio, delves into a somewhat unexpected chapter of the Great American Songbook- TV themes of the 70s and 80s.
