Event Description
Los Muñequitos de Matanzas was born in 1952 when a group of young port workers, plumbers and bricklayers began to play on tables with glasses, spoons and bottles in a local bar.
Fifty-five years later, they are one of Cuba's proudest exports, a polyrhythmic percussion, vocal and dance troupe whose music encompasses the African roots of the Cuban culture, including religious Yoruba traditions.
Their blend of Afro-Cuban drum chants and rootsy rumbas has been lauded as some of the heaviest music on the planet.
