Brandi Disterheft Quartet

Brandi Disterheft is an up and coming bass player originally from Vancouver, British Columbia. Currently completing her music degree at Torontos Humber College on full-tuition scholarship, Brandi has studied with artists such as Don Thompson, Pat Labarbera, Neils-Henning Orsted Pedersen, Rodney Whitaker. Presently, Brandi is studying with the Toronto Symphony Orchestras principal bassist, Ed Tait. In June 2003, Brandi attended the Steans Institute for Young Artists Program in Chicago on full scholarship where she was instructed by Danilo Perez, David Baker, James Moody, and Rufus Reid. In November of 2002, Brandi won an international competition with the Crossings Quartet (Laila Biali, Sly Juhas, Tara Davidson) where she attended a week long workshop from the faculty of Manhattan School of Music in New York City. The finale to the workshop was an evening performance in the world renowned venue, Carnegie Hall. In October of 2001, Brandi was chosen as "Canadas young future jazz star" where she headlined as a special guest along with Guido Basso and Carol Wellsmen. Brandi gave her debut performance with the Canada Pops Orchestra at Torontos Centre of the Performing Arts. The Canada Pops Orchestra is comprised of members of the TSO and Toronto jazz artists. The Winner of Sisters in Jazz 2000 Collegiate Competition, Brandi performed with the sextet at the annual IAJE Conference in New Orleans and at the Mary Lou Williams' Jazz Festival held at the J.F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. Concluding in Austria, the sextet performed at the Vienna Opera House opening for Manhattan Transfer and the Nicholas Payton Big Band. Recognized in Jazziz Magazine, Brandi has recently recorded for radio and television advertisements for National Post and is regularly performing with groups around Toronto.
