Stretching across boundaries is not something foreign to singer/guitarist Pete Stewart, as evidenced by his newest album, Under North Sky—the songwriter's first alt-country recording and third release as a solo artist.
After growing up in rural northwest Washington, Pete moved to Seattle and sprang on to the rock music scene. His band Grammatrain quickly signed to EMI Records and toured internationally. Following the band's eventual hiatus, Pete migrated to Nashville for several years to record his first solo album and also began a career as a producer, which ended up earning him two Grammies and a gold record.
On Under North Sky, Pete channels some of his deepest influences...exuding a rootsiness true to his rural heritage. At times, his songs harken the quiet intensity of Nick Drake. Others recall the string-bending country-rock of early Wilco or Neil Young & Crazy Horse. Pete has the ability to put into to words the emotions we feel during a lifetime...one that is really lived. His music can be experienced like a sweet lullaby often telling you tales of heartbreak or reflection while leaving you feeling engaged and inspired.
“Music has always been my lifeline,” says Pete. “lt laughs with you and cries with you, and somehow it can turn messy things into something beautiful.”
