I guess this is kind of boring, but its allergy season and I avoid taking medication for anything if I can help it.
I found this (& tons of other related articles online):

Mine usually only last a couple of weeks at the start of season anyway, but its no inconvenience to have some local, unpasteurized honey every day, so I figure its worth a shot. - Fri, 10 Apr 2009 9:40am

Just might work, who knows. I've tried Grape Seed Extract, high dose vitamin formulas, bee pollen and the only thing that worked for me was immunotherapy as I'm allergic to a whole range of things. As far as drug store medications go, I've tried just about every OTC drug for allergies and the only thing that works for myself is Reactine. I hope the honey works for you - I'm sure Babes sells non pasteurized. The less meds in your system all the better. Let us know! - Fri, 10 Apr 2009 10:15am

Oh wow, thats a lot. I haven't tried much of anything. I had a 2 day headache last week and then Monday they kicked in bigtime - I was at the Biltmore and ran over to the Cobalt and on the way back I must have sneezed 30X. I was a wreck. Same for a couple more days but nothing since it rained so I'm pretty sure its a temporary thing. I used to get them way worse when I was a kid.
I heard the pollen counts skyrocketed on account of the cold letting up suddenly.

I did a quick google for immunotherapy - it sounds like a more aggressive form of homeopathy. Is that right?
Shots? How long did it take to work? Its good that you tried it and awesome that it worked.
Yes, the less meds poluting your system the better. I'm pretty lucky - no health issues to speak of so my system is completely clean & clear and I try to keep it that way.
And I'm in Vancouver so the honey I got is from Burnaby! - Fri, 10 Apr 2009 2:58pm Edited: Fri, 10 Apr 2009 2:59pm

Sorry, Sati - forgot you were in Van! The immunotherapy I did started with two shots per week for 3 months, followed by one shot per week in arm, every week, for 5 years. The version I did is they skin test you to see what you're most allergic to, then create a serum with only 3 or 4 items (as that is all your body can handle at a time) and inject you with that to get your body used to it. For me, even working up to .5 of a CC of the serum still produced a welt on my arm about the size of a bandaid that lasted for a couple days. Even after 5 years it definitely helped with my hayfever (tree, plant pollen) but only slightly helped my allergies to cats and dogs. So after 5 years I said thats enough. Hope the honey works for you, keep us posted! - Sat, 11 Apr 2009 9:50am

this totally works.
it's what I reccomend to my friends after a stint in New Zealand when I got allergies for the first time in my life. Maori chap told me to do it and I was in so much agony, that I would have done anything.

has to be local
has to be unpasteurized
white is better than gold
3 tablespoons a day
taken straight, not in coffee or tea as it destroys the organic material in the honey - Sat, 11 Apr 2009 10:44pm

Makes sense.
The stuff is made from the problem itself. What better way to treat allergies?
I get them bad. Always have.
I need to try this. - Sun, 12 Apr 2009 12:35pm

Call me a hippy, but I'm inclined to believe that this is working for me.

I can't be sure, because in the last few years I've only had a short spell at the start of season. But given that the weather has cleared up & been more sunny than not, my allergies should be in full force for at least another couple weeks. I've been outside back and forth as usual in the day and running between shows about 4 nights a week, and all I got was a little sneezy the other morning.

I had some cat allergies over the wknd, but I'm pretty sure they were unrelated and this treatment obviously won't help with those.

I've been taking about a teaspoon a couple times a day, straight, after I realized having it in tea was killing it (thanks Matteus!).

Honey's supposed to be really healthy in a lot of other ways, so I think I'm going to keep it up, beyond allergy season. Supporting local farmers is an added bonus! - Thu, 16 Apr 2009 8:37pm

Just thought I'd bump this again... I started having a hint of them and thought it'd be too late, but no, started taking a teaspoon of local, unpasteurized (Kidd Bros from Burnaby) once a day and I'm allergy-free for a 2nd year in a row.
