DJ Dub Gnostic (previously The Alchemist and before that DJ No-body) and Rozek (known to some as Troll) go back decades to early 90s Toronto and the unique juncture of electronic music culture that took place there. Toronto was a heartbeat away from Detroit but also one of the main centres of Jungle music outside of the UK at the time.
Coming from more experimental territories of electronic industrial, Dub Gnostic first found himself in the ambient rooms before moving into his signature dub techno / deep house sound as a DJ. While his friends were making the gradual migration to Montreal (Mutek) and then Berlin, Dub Gnostic headed west, where he would later release with Ben Nevile on Mosaic Records UK and produce a serious run of techno and house shows as the bookings director of Neptune Soundbar. After a short stint in Edinburgh and a brief return to Ontario, he moved back to Victoria in 2006 - with a radio show on CFUV and select bookings (including VEMF and Diversity Festival appearances) as he entered a Masters degree program at UVic. Outside of the studio, his current endeavour is the establishment of a media arts society.
Rozek as Troll worked with some of Toronto's most prodigious exports to the world - from Jeff Milligan (releasing on Jeff's Revolver Canada imprint) to Himadri of Teste who produced the famous Plus 8 release "The Wipe" (Rozek also released on Himadri's own Switch Records). Chris has played the BC Festival circuit including Soundwave, Tall Tree, Artswells, Freedom Festival and running a renegade stage at Shambhala.
Adding in the dubstep influences of the mid-2000s Bristol scene and a mutual love for hardware - Rozek and Dub Gnostic have been working on tracks together since 2010 in Rozek's studio space. By 2015, although finished tracks had already been realized, it dawned on them that they had hours of material which could be worked into a live context. Their debut set was at Rifflandia in September 2015.
