MaryLou Wakefield
from Victoria BC
I draw inspiration from the natural world - from the simplest play of shadows on a surface to vast wild landscapes and seascapes. Design and architecture are also key influences.
Early work includes mono prints and hand lettered works. Currently my painting explores themes of connection - to place, to memory, to an idea, and to each other.
I work in acrylic and ink and make tools from foraged botanical materials to create one of a kind marks.
I'm a member of Zebra Art Collective, Ground Zero Printmakers, and the Mentorship Program at arc.hive Artist Run Centre in Victoria, B.C. and a board member of the Metchosin International Summer School of the Arts (MISSA).
With shared studio space closed recently due to the Corona virus pandemic, I'm now working from a old garden shed at the bottom of our garden, pictured here, which I converted into a painting studio. My studio practice includes painting, printmaking, and hand lettered works.
I'm happy to discuss collaboration opportunities as well as commissions. Contact me through my website at mlwakefieldart.com for more information about my work.
