Apna Virsa Victoria Cultural Association (AVVCA) is a registered non-profit organization located in Victoria, British Columbia. Since our humble beginnings in 2009, AVVCA has grown immensely, while adhering to our mission of promoting our cultural heritage through dance. We strongly believe in giving back to the community by sharing our talents and inspiring future generations to do the same.
“Apna Virsa” translates to “Our Heritage” in Punjabi and is not only our name, but the goal of our organization – to preserve and proudly promote our cultural heritage. We aim to educate children, youth, and families, about our roots and empower them to express their cultural pride in a creative way.
At AVVCA, we truly believe that cultural dance knows no boundaries. We strive to promote this value by ensuring that students of all ages, races, and abilities are welcome in our community. The only attributes required are hard-work, a willingness to learn, and a positive attitude.
Our teachers are experienced in various dance forms including Bhangra, Giddha, Bollywood, Haryani, and Rajasthani, to name a few. They are eager to pass along their knowledge and talent to another generation of dancers and provide mentorship opportunities.
We are a 100% volunteer-based organization and our efforts are driven forward by a dedicated Board of Directors. We engage in fundraising activities and collect minimal registration fees to pay for studio rentals, equipment, and costumes. We are always looking for people interested in lending a helping hand!
For physical events that happen at a specific time. For example a concert, or dance performance. If there are multiple shows, you can still duplicate your event to cover them all.
